Contactform is being misused

My site is www.magoster.nl and has been made with Rapidweaver Classic. A one man job and being over 76 years old I see my self unable to migrate to Elements. There is unfortunately no support from friends anymore.

On the site there is a contactform made with Formsnap 3 Base. It is being misused, I receive now 10-15 messages each day. It looks like they are made automatically because of this number and it contains crap. Only the e-mailaddress contains a existing name (like bdhxwqud@hotmail.com). The form is secured with reCaptcha v3 with is still supported by RW Classic I hope.

I would appreciate some advise for what to do with it. Go to reCaptcha v2 perhaps (and can I remove than v3)? Or..?

Beside this I hope that RapidWeaver Classic will stay for a while. It is still a marvelous and amazing tool!

Cheers, Rudolph Smits

Hi @rudolphsmits

Can you add like an anti-bot field, where it asks them to solve a simple math question like “What’s 8+5” or something? I think you can create that security question with FormSnap, not sure if it’s on your version 3 though, or on a higher version..

Thanks for this advise, I will look at it.

In the meantime ChapGPT told me that I can add v2 (“I am not a robot”) without having to remove v3. Is there someone with this double security? They don’t harm each other?

I wasn’t aware you could add both v2 and v3 versions of Google’s reCaptcha on the same page. Might want to confirm with Google’s docs on it, but if it’s possible go for it! :slightly_smiling_face:

I tried this on my test site www.belard.nl. The contactform does not send anymore. Not with v2 and v3, not with only v2 and after restoring the original site it does not send with v3 neither. So it is getting worse with this solution. Maybe because Formsnap 3 Base is outdated? Now v4 is available.

Maybe because it is outdated, but it is not possible to add an question as “2+6=?”.

Perhaps, that might have been a v4 feature only.

I’m not sure what all features version v3 of FormSnap had…

Anyway the Contact Form in Elements has a lot better Spam Protections built-in, so if you do feel like you could rebuild in Elements that would help. :slightly_smiling_face:

But, if you need to stick with Classic, perhaps you’d be able to set up a security question captcha and also Google’s captcha for extra protection on FormSnap v4. That might help cut back on bot submissions.
