Couldn't Sign In to your FTP Server - RW 7.0.4 - then hangs

Recently upgraded to 7.0.4.
Previously able to publish to web server now fails.
Message: “Couldn’t sign in to your FTP server” with info box saying "Couldn’t connect to server.|
If I go to Publishing settings and run “Test”, the connection is successful. I can also connect successfully via Transmit.
The app then hangs with the publishing dialog box open, and both options to Skip Backup and Cancel Publishing greyed out.

Partial Log (too long to include the whole thing in this box)

Same problem here.

Also tried the Send Upload Logs option to report the issue but the log file is 132 MB and my email account has a 28.3 MB limit.

It’s worse than I thought. Re-installed RW 7.0.2 (which was working fine yesterday) to find exactly the same problem there too. How do I get out of this mess?

Exactly the same here. Cannot publish with 7.0.4, concluded it was RW at fault and reinstalled 7.0.2, only to find the problem persists. RapidWeaver needs to sort his out as a matter of screaming urgency! What … the … !!!

Would you be able to share your FTP server login details with support@realmacsoftware.com?

If so, let them know I sent you and I can take a look at this for you.

Thanks for the offer, but no, a large part of the website is secure.

ftp is always OK using FileZilla.

RW Publishing Test now sometimes fails, sometimes OK, but all publishing fails.

Have also tried rolling back to the previous project file version but that didn’t help, nor does limiting the number of connections or changing the RW publishing mode.

I’m screwed

No problem - I understand.

If you could first ensure that upload logging is enabled, it’d be really useful if you could upload the log file to Dropbox or similar.

Each line in the log file has a date and time - if you delete anything not from today, it’ll be a much smaller file (and will, fingers crossed, still show everything we need).

Whoops sorry RapidWeaver - there was a problem with my web host after all, and 7.0.2 is now publishing OK… and breathe …

Seems to be the same here too. Upload just completed, the blame must lie with my host 1&1.

Sorry RW, my apologies.

OK, just to be clear, I’ve upgraded to RW 7.0.4 again and everything seems fine. The publishing problems appear to have been due to a coincidental cock-up by 1&1.

No problem with 7.02, but with 7.04 and same settings, Test gives FTP:weird server reply

Any thoughts?

Same problem here, everything fine with 7.0.3. After 7.0.4 cannot upload to FTP server

Same problem here too. Upgraded to 7.04 and now cannot publish from RW. Tried to export site to folder and do manual ftp but when compare what’s on server from before update with exported site, folders aren’t the same. There is no “index_files” folder in my exported site. Really need to publish for client.

Ever since I did the 7.0.3 update a few days ago, I could not publish anything in RW7, so I stepped back to 7.0.2 which was working before the update. Well 7.0.2 didnt work anymore either. So I went to a meeting yesterday(different network) and tried to publish something and it worked. So I updated to 7.0.4 figuring it was a fluke

Now I’m back at home and guess what, no publishing in RW7. RW6 & Filezilla log into the server just fine and the test in Publishing settings say its good.

I’m thinking a preference file or something is screwed, but I have no idea which one to look at

Same problems!! I just upgraded from version 6 to version 7.04 yesterday. I made some major changes to a site, then tried to upload to Dreamhost as usual and it failed. I googled the issue and found this page.

DW 7.04 will do export process then when it starts the upload process it stalls and nothing happens. Finally I get an error. All my FTP credentials look like they got imported properly. As a test I dragged RW 6 off my back up drive and opened it. I was able to FTP no problem!

I remember when I jumped from 5 to 6 it was unpleasant and I had FTP issues with that until something got resolved. Maybe I should have waited another 6 months to upgrade to 7.

Considering I maintain a number of sites and don’t have time to fool around, I keeping everything else on RW 6 until we can find a solution to this 7.04 FTP issue.

Just found a resolution:
Passive set by default.
Should be Extended Passive publishing setting

Dude. You totally saved my brain with this post. THANK YOU!!!

I have been having this problem still in Version 7.5.5 on a number of my client’s websites. It is a major issue!
Why does RealMac not give a solution to this problem?

Many users have no problem with publishing using RapidWeaver. Others just publish locally and use separate FTP clients.
If you’re having issues with publishing, I would suggest you create a new post, (this one is about a different release) and give complete details, like hosting companies being used, screen shots of the publishing settings, and what happens when you test.

I’ve had that problem recently but only on and off. It usually happens when I am publishing several pages at once and when I try a few minutes later, it will publish, no problem. I think it has to do with the internet service as we sporadically have glitches with it. I don’t think it’s a RW problem.
