Hi all. I have a client that I have been working with for almost 24 years and I generate a LOT of files for them. They asked me if there would be a way to include a password protected directory or some other way to house the hundreds of product datasheet PDFs I’ve created on their website. Their site is done in Classic using Foundry 3, but it is my plan to eventually redo the site in Elements. Anything out there in the way of a stack or some way to do this in Elements? Googling options didn’t really yield anything but a lot of 404 pages for Classic stacks that I assume are no longer being developed. Would appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks!
A password protected directory is simple to achieve using the control panel of your hosting package.
If something more fancy looking is required, the Page Safe stack from Weaver’s Space (for Classic + Stacks) allows you to set a PIN on the page.
For both the password protected directory in your hosting package and Page Safe, the following is true: the password/PIN/code is the same for all users, so if someone leaks the password/PIN/code you have no way to block the receiver of the leak.
Sitelok (Vibralogix) is a more complete package that allows you to set up user accounts (and comes with an account management module), which allows you to grant or withdraw access per individual user. If credentials to the page are leaked, you can simply disable that user or change their password to close the breach.
Sitelok is platform agnostic and works on Classic, Classic+Stacks and Elements. The same is true for locking a directory on your hosting platform. Page Safe only works on Classic+Stacks.
Cheers,
Erwin
Thanks, Erwin. I attempted to set up SiteLok a few years ago on their old site. Great product and support, but my client didn’t like it. I may end up having to manually build something for them.
There’s also the UserAccess Management Stack available: inStacks Software | UserAccess Stack
