Custom Font Issues

I’m finding the whole process of working with custom fonts in Elements very confusing, especially when dealing with families of fonts (different weights, styles, variants, etc). Simply adding custom fonts to a project is unintuitive enough, never mind being able to define and specify individual font weights and styles within a family. I’ve included a video below to illustrate.

In terms of adding fonts, you can’t simply drag fonts from the Finder into the Fonts panel within the Theme Editor. You have to drag them into your site resources first (and contain them within a folder) before you can add them to the Fonts panel within the Theme Editor—which of course is a pop-up window, making it awkward to grab fonts from your resources folder in the main app window, in order to drop them in the Theme Editor window.

If you’ve selected many fonts to add, you’ll notice that only the first font will be added. You can of course continue to add additional fonts, but there is no way to indicate what the font weights (regular, bold, 100-900, etc) or styles (italic, condensed, compressed, etc) are within the panel. Never mind what happens if you were to add a variable font?

Anyway, I’m sure this is on the radar, but using custom fonts definitely needs some work before release.

I also discovered a crash when trying to add a folder of fonts to a custom font:

Along the same lines, for setting custom component font, if we want a custom font, I’m wondering how to set that up, as the font probably won’t be in project defaults and not in the dropdown. I guess this will be a similar issue in font sizes, weights and anything else that’s related to theme editor.
