Google Drive has died - linking audio files

Moving 365 songs to DreamHost. 3.05gb of songs

This is for: OneSongEveryDay.com I did this in 2006

Do I make one large text file with links? Like it is now

Or

Make 365 containers - with mini audio player in each?

Dont really know which way to go….

Your thoughts?

May have to create my ‘own’ audio player with Doobox Audio Player so that I can have large descriptions of the songs

Thanks for the feedback, I’ve added this to the list to get fixed

Dear Michael…

you are a talented artist and a diligent worker (creator, webdesigner).
Now you are manually creating 365 sections with Audio Components via editing and drag&drop - 20 a day.
To make this far less time consuming, it would be an ideal little workplace for a potential solution via Elements CMS. Having all the necessary informations (cover image, mp3-file, song title, artist name and more) in Markdown files and hook those up to a Custom Component which includes the Audio Component from Elements core. This new Custom Component - “1of365-MD-Audios” then within a collection as required by the Elements CMS. Note that this is just a raw idea (maybe I am too optimistic), but with the help of @elementsbot, @dan, @ben and maybe other forum members this could be a huge time saver and could keep your “365 songs”-page very small and easy to maintain in Elements. Plus it would show the versatility, flexibility and power of Elements.

Hey Michael!

Hans dropped a brilliant suggestion there! :guitar: Using Elements CMS with Markdown files for managing your 365 songs sounds like a great way to simplify things.

Here’s a quick rundown:

  1. Markdown Files: Each song can be in a separate Markdown file with metadata.
  2. Custom Component: Create a component that includes the Audio Component for each song’s details.
  3. Elements CMS: Use the CMS system to create a collection that loops through these files, auto-generating your layout.

You’ll cut down on time and make it super easy to maintain. And if you need more hands-on help with that, our forum buddies like Dan and Ben, or even lil’ old me (ahem), can support you in fleshing this out.

Let us know how it rolls out, or if you need a nudge in the right direction! :musical_notes:

It is an idea, but I don’t want to bother anyone….

I just copy the last container - formatted the way I like - then change the title, recording, description, and download link

Not too bad…

The cover and my name and the format stays the same…

I really appreciate your help and support…. But I’ll be ok in 19 days - lol :joy: 20 per day

It’s not ideal - but it work!

Hopefully won’t have to do this for another 20 years…
(2006 was original project)

It really was very kind of you - thank you!

I did not mean that you should bother someone.

You described what you want and you even showed what and how you do it now. And here you got an idea for a modified workflow to potentially making it easier to create and maintain your content.

Someone might join in to build this CMSAudio-Component "1of365-MD-Audios” (maybe when the new Elements Store is ready to roll). It should not be too complex for some of the Elements-experts here.

Or maybe @dan uses this idea for a video tutorial on how to create Custom Components for CMS  I would love to see this happen!
And it would simplify your work a lot.

If nobody is interested in this idea, you are set anyhow with your current workflow. So no problem at all.

PS: I suggest you have your “copied container” as a Global with properties. So any future layout update will not require you to modify 365 containers …consistently.

Thank you again - I tried CMS in the beginning… watched the tutorials- tried it - watched a few seconds did the next step and so on… spent hours

Didn’t work for me…

Deleted the project and went on with my life - just figured it wasn’t ready or finished etc…

I triple checked all my code, folder creation and actions…

So that’s my story… was going to waiting for templates from others…

Maybe too late - up to 60 songs today…

Advice:
Should I make a spreadsheet? of Song Title, Description, Song Date and Song Number?

For future Use? Or wait 20 years?

Ok - I messed up - sorry  I didn’t listen

I’m on song 270 and started thinking  - how can I link to song ‘xyz’ without going to a page and scrolling through 100 songs?

Oops :grimacing:

CMS CMS CMS

Sorry I didn’t get it or listen…

Now i understand…

Going to make a template…

What should be in it?

Can the audio component be inside? I think yes

Then some ideas below from gpt…

This will be the most complicated site I’ve built… for me…

Well - Lots of questions… Sorry Going to ask a lot until I get it set up then start migrating

Do I have 4 pages again?

page 1 songs 1-100
page 2 songs 101-200
page 3 songs 201-300
page 4 songs 301-365

Or? 1 long folder of MD?

I only have 1 template - Plante

trying to understand it…

I need the basics…

Landing Page? and Item Page?

Under CMS If I have four pages - would I have four folders of MD?

What would be the best set of tags be for the future?

Title:
Song Name:
Date Published:
Author:
Musical Style: jazz, classical, dance, country, rock, pop, world, vocals, piano, guitar, instrumental, experimental, etc ???

I want people be able to sort by style or interest.

This is the only template I have, and I’m trying to learn from it…

Structuring Folders:

I have Explore folder with everything inside
I created another Folder: Listen to My New Music: (then links to apple amazon Spotify and YouTube)

In Plante - Blog would be my new homepage? or No?

So from my understanding of looking at the plante template -

The header would be:

Can I use the audio player component?

What would the MD header be?
What would the artwork code be in MD?

Well looks like this is the final meta data:

Title: One Song Every Day Project

Genre:

  • Ambient

  • Jazz

Mood:
