Dev Diary Ep16 - Create a Webpage in Seconds!

Hey All!

We’ve been discussing the naming issue internally and based on all the feedback we think it’s best to stick to calling all of them “Elements” - as that’s what they are.

However, they will be separated out into categories or “packs”, I’ve attached a screenshot below, the names are just examples, but it shows how we can separate them out and customers will be able to choose the “packs” they are interested in.

For example, you could choose a “Pro” pack and that would show you just the advanced Elements… Or you could choose the “Vanilla” pack and those would show only the simpler Elements.

Everything is a process and your feedback has really helped us get some clarity on this - thank you!

So… is this the right way to go? keep the feedback coming

@dan Hi, displaying the tree structure seems imperative to me if you choose only “elements” otherwise we don’t know where we are. Hence certainly the demand for different names (naming essentially serves to distinguish the like, an obscure quote from the 18th century).

So I’m not getting this at all. If we are not going to try using a catchy name, why bait just use as you described.

Advanced or Simple

Or try something far more descriptive. Trying to teach people a new definition of an existing word is often where software becomes confusing and loses people’s interest.

Edit: In thinking about it more and looking at the GIF again, I think ‘packs’ works as these will (I assume) only ever contained professional, prebuilt, Realmac or 3rd party elements. Then the only difference remaining is the basic elements, and the custom user created elements which should be simple enough to differentiate.

Who knew naming things was so difficult?!

Thanks again for all the feedback, we’ll continue to discuss this as we develop things this week, and fingers crossed we’ll have a solution most people are happy with

Expect an update on all this next Tuesday!

Hi @dan

I had to take a screenshot of your gif - so my old eyes could focus & I could think - lol
If you give users the ability to create a sort group name and the ability to add their own custom tags to anything, even 3rd party then everyone will be happy.

I envision the sort groups to be the parent ‘Elements’ ‘pack’ would show everything, then each developer would have a ‘pack’ related to their business name that shows all their elements and a custom set that users can add unlimited ‘packs’ to.
Looking forward to a gell of all these ideas - keep it up.

I like this idea. However it should still have a default drop zone for newly added bits. Particularly thinking vendor identification and maybe a “recent” filter.

Exactly! We’re aiming to make Elements as flexible as possible, and that extends to making sure third-party developers and users can sort and organise addons however they like. We have already built-in support for tags and groups (categories), as well as support for viewing addons by Developer

Hi Dan,

Great feature! Just some suggestions in what to call the ‘prebuilt’ Elements:

Frame Elements
Theme Elements
Structured Elements

I’m glad I don’t have to work through all these suggestions.
