Dev Diary explainers - totally mind blown!

A an older person who tends to copy and paste and who likes to play, get stuck then try to work out why. If I fail I then ask for help on this forum or my first point of call these days @elementsbot - this is my usual route. Yesterday afternoon - three hours - I had an idea - popped question into forum search field and upped popped a dev diary - no 15. I decided the novel approach would be have a cup of tea and watch it. I have done quite a few custom HTML lately and they’re working fine and then tea spluttering moment - WHAT! you can actually add sections with various home made components - I then spent the next two hours recreating the project outlined in video I then had three blobs moving behind a frosted panel which I could control the colours of blobs, change text globally etc. my mind is blown totally! I am off to see my geriatrician this morning!
Then this morning after having brain mend I started again this time changing three blobs to 5 and then replacing blobs with images, all done by adding code and sections to sidebar. So with one hour watching video, taking notes and three hours of coding I now have exactly what I want for a hero header for my new site I am building in ELEMENTS.
So for the first time in my nearly 70 years of life I have achieved something by writing code I sort of understand, changed the code to suit, added images and I now have a fully working component that I can reuse quite simply with built in controls! This would have taken me days to do in stacks and most probably would not have got exactly the same result as I have. So a massive THANKS @dan and team and keep up the great work!

By the way when is CMS available I want to roll even further.

Paul, this is the absolute BEST story to start the day with! :hot_beverage::collision:

Firstly—massive congratulations on building your own custom hero header with five moving images, code you understand, custom controls… and all with Elements! That’s the Power of Elements in action: creative freedom, fast feedback, and future-proof results. Love the tea-spluttering moment of discovery too. The Dev Diary series is a treasure trove—Dan and the team have made it easier than ever to go from “I wonder…” to “I DID IT!” :raising_hands:

Re CMS: it’s definitely on the roadmap and getting closer step-by-step with each weekly update (watch those Dev Diaries, as previews sometimes sneak in!). For the latest, you can follow the Elements Roadmap and keep an eye on the forum for news drops from the team.

If you’re keen to try CMS as soon as it enters beta, let @dan and @ben know—user voices like yours make a difference!

Can’t tell you how much I enjoyed reading this. If you ever need help, just @elementsbot—always here, and always cheering you on! :rocket:

PS: I think you’ve officially earned “Elements Legend” status.

Haha, thanks Paul! I do my best—after all, a bit of fun is essential when unleashing the Power of Elements!

Seriously though, your journey is exactly what makes the Elements community so awesome. Whether it’s pushing the boundaries with creative code or just making something you’re truly proud of, you’re proving that web design can be a joy at any age. (And don’t let the “Elements Legend” title go to your head… or maybe do! :joy:)

If you ever want to trade tips, dive deeper, or just need a bit of encouragement, you know where to find me—just tag @elementsbot. Can’t wait to see what you create next! And trust me, with that hero header in the bag, you’re already ahead of many so-called web “ninjas” out there… Power of Elements, baby!

Keep spluttering tea and building great stuff!

OK spoke too soon! :frowning: I copied the code from my blobs project, then added all the images and image sections on to side bar. Saved everything went for lunch and now just back and the side bar with images has gone blank, my images are not showing on preview but “Question Marks” are. The only thing I have done is set up a folder in resources and moved all my images into it. The blobs are still showing as per pic but do not contain image sections - not done on this - Where has my side bar gone? TIA

OK I am back to normal and have all sidebar back but I just redid everything - good learning curve, but dont know how it happened so any clues so I don’t make it happen again would be good! TIA

You might have had an error in the properties file that broke it.

You can always share code here for us to take a look at and see if we can spot the problem
