Disable Video Overlay in Lightbox in Safari

Hello everyone,

I couldn’t find an answer in the forum.

In Elements: How can I disable the overlay that appears while the mouse cursor is over a mp4-video I’m watching in a lightbox? This only happens in Safari. Chrome doesn’t show any overlay.

Thank you

Anyone? The overlay is not on YT videos, it’s just on self-hosted videos.

Thank you.

Hi @Holler

Can you post a screenshot of what you mean?

I’m not seeing an overlay on hover on the MP4 video in Safari when testing.

Hi Daniel,

please see .gif attached. I have disabled all video options in Elements (muted, controls etc). It happens with Lightbox activated. Please focus on the cursor on the left side of the video.

Can you upload your project file to Elements Cloud and paste the URL here? I’m not seeing that so maybe something is different in your setup.

This is what I ‘m seeing with that project file in Safari.

Is that what you are trying to achieve? I don’t see any window tinting like in your recording, but I am seeing the controls (fullscreen, pop-out, play, etc.)

Yes, that is what I am trying

It seems to be an issue with Safari 26.1. on macOS Tahoe and has nothing to do with Elements. Just found this post on reddit

Thanks for your help

I have Safari 26.1, but not Tahoe…

There are too many issues with Tahoe (in general, not related to RW/Elements), so I haven’t updated to it…

Anyway nice find, hopefully Apple will fix it soon. :grimacing:

For anyone with the same issue: this solution works for me.
