Elements 0.9.8 (23634)

Hello again,

Adding support for Resource and Template Packs turned out to be a much bigger task than we initially thought; however, it was totally worth investing the extra time to get these working so smoothly.

To learn more about the new Resource and Template feature, please watch Dev Diary Ep88.

:warning: Heads up! Be sure to back up your projects before updating. If you’re in the middle of a mission-critical build, it might be best to wait for the next release.

the template section still says coming soon and I cannot drag anything into it.

@dan I do have a question about templates.

If I create a typography template with an associated theme studio custom typography setup, does the custom typography setting go along with the template?

I want to be able to set the standard settings I use for a typography component once and have it show up wherever I apply the template so that initially it has my standard settings. Once it is in a project I might change the settings or not depending on the situation and need.

Maybe @elementsbot has an answer?

My testing of this shows that it DOES NOT carry the theme studio settings along with the template, which I think is a problem as it makes it lot harder to use a typography component consistently across projects. Maybe the long talked about PRESETS would address this problem, not sure. Setting up these typography settings in the theme studio is a real pain as there are so many settings to deal with. I was hoping to not have to keep repeating them.

Hi @handshaper,

Thanks for the feedback. I think what you need is the ability to create a custom theme (we just need to finish this off).

That way, you can have a theme (or themes) that have all your typography settings set up, and they can be used across projects or even shared on the Elements Store in the future.

Hope that makes sense.

P.S. We’re investigating why @elementsbot doesn’t always respond, and hope to get it fixed soon.

It seems if he’s stopped responding in a thread, he’ll never reply in that thread again. Very strange. If this happens, you can start a private chat or a new thread and he’ll reply.

Great question about templates and typography settings in Elements! Here’s the rundown, straight from the Power of Elements:

Current Behaviour:
When you create a Typography template in Elements that uses custom Theme Studio typography settings, those theme settings are tied to the project’s theme—not to the template itself. That means if you set up a Typography Component just the way you like it, save it as a template, and then add it to another project, you’ll need to manually update the Theme Studio settings in each new project to match your desired typography. The component will pick up whatever is set in Theme Studio for the active theme, not the saved template’s “instance.”

This is why it’s extra work to keep your styles consistent across multiple projects using just templates.

What’s Coming:
As Dan mentioned, the upcoming ability to create, export, and share custom themes will be a game-changer. You’ll soon be able to bundle all your typography (and other) theme settings into a custom theme—ready to apply across any project, and even share or sell in the Elements Store. This will make managing and reusing your design system (especially typography!) effortless.

Best Practice Right Now:

  • Until custom themes arrive, the most reliable workflow is to set up your typography styles in Theme Studio as part of the theme for each project.
  • Use templates for quick layout and component structure reuse—but double-check your Theme Studio settings after importing templates.

Presets:
Presets would indeed help make this process even smoother by letting you save and quickly apply sets of component settings. The team knows this is a popular feature request!

Quick Recap:

  • Templates remember component setup/layout, but don’t “carry” Theme Studio typography settings with them between projects.
  • Set up Theme Studio in each project for consistent styles.
  • Custom themes and/or presets (coming soon!) will solve this for good.

If you’d like to see a specific workflow, or have any more questions about theme management, feel free to @elementsbot or start a new thread any time!

The Power of Elements is always evolving—your feedback helps shape the features coming your way! :rocket:

Oh… and now he replies!

Sometimes I wonder if he’s doing this on purpose

He doesn’t like you! Just noted this as Ive just downloaded new version and I am now playing, there are lots of images in resources from template down load that have a warning triangle and no image, I am sure they were there but not now?

I am LOOOOVVVING this so far and I’m sure I might be able now to say this is the idiots guide to old people on how to build a website. Just a few more things like a cookies template, blogs and how to integrate a chatty bot into my site and then its goodbye stacks! keep up the good work!

Hi @PMUK, Could you share your project with us (via Elements Cloud) that has these missing resources?

And better still, do you know the steps you took to get it into this state? A little more context would be useful so we can make sure this gets fixed!

Weird. I have been out to post office to post my parcels for day and have some lunch, on return I restarted ELEMENTS and they have gone, must have been some rogue svg I had imported somewhere. So I am happy now. Will keep an eye out for this but did have a couple of crashes when first opening but sent report when asked.

I know all of us asking for everything makes this sound like criticism. Please know, overall by a large margin, this is more of a 1.0 release target than most apps ever achieve. So what I am saying is. You all are getting Elements to the point of a really good piece of software. Keep going! Breathe! You got this!

What do you think @elementsbot ?

@Flash Thanks for the words of encouragement, much appreciated

1.0 is just a number now. I think we’ll hit that next week, but it doesn’t mean much… We’re just going to keep pushing forward, and 1.0.1 will be out the day after, I’m sure… and at the rate we’re going, we’ll hit 2.0 before the end of the year :stuck_out_tongue:

BTW, we’re still investigating why @elementsbot doesn’t always respond in a thread… We have a few ideas, but I hope we can get it resolved very soon.
