I’m still having issues with the built-in browser. Occasionally I get an error message that it cannot connect. Then when I close the window, Elements exits. Also, still have to do several tries for Publish Site to work.
Downloaded the trial yesterday and it was previewing in Safari no problem. Today, it says Safari cannot connect to the server. Removed 27.0.0.1 from the cache, but still it won’t load. Very annoying. I wonder if there is an easy solution - I don’t want to completely clear my Safari cache. And yes, Elements then quits in the background.
On another note - Doing all this trial and error testing, I wonder if we can turn off the splash screen at the start? I disabled sounds in preferences, but it still gives me the opening sound FX when starting the program.
Hmm, we’re looking into this, and @tpbradley might have some more questions for you. In the meantime, try quitting Elements, and restarting your Mac — Does that help?
What ironically worked for me after trying to restart Elements several times with no luck was to publish the site. That worked on the third try. Then when I tried to view the browser, it worked. Go figure!
You see the Elements intro (and hear it) every time you launch because you are running in trial mode. Once you purchase a license the launch intro/sound will no longer play.
Thanks for the info guys. I will check into this and see if we can improve things around publishing and preview to make it more robust.
If you hit this problem again, please quit Elements and relaunch it. That should get you going again.
I’m not sure how much you guys know about macOS so thought I’d mention this just in case. Sometimes it can seem like Elements has quit if there are no windows on the screen but it may still be running. You can tell if Elements is running by looking in the dock for the small black dot beneath the icon.
If you see the dot, Elements is running. Click the Elements icon, then select quit from the Elements menu. This will make sure it’s shut down property and clicking the icon will relaunch it.
Thank you!
Hi Dan, thank you - Restarting does not seem to help. I tried loading in one of the projects that came with the software incase I had done something untoward in the site I was working on, but Safari still won’t preview it for some reason. This is the error message in case it helps: Safari can’‘t open the page “127.0.0.1:49408” because Safari can’t connect to the server '“127.0.0.1”.
When I first started using MacOS this caught me out. Clicking the Red circle in the top left does not close any (most?) apps. You need to Cmd-Q or do as Tom said.
Can you check if you have any VPN or other network security software installed like Little Snitch as these can sometimes prevent connections to the Elements web server.
If you don’t, could you try creating a new empty document and follow the instructions in the image below. Do you still get the same error?
Tried this, but without success. I have no other security software installed, and in any case, the first day I downloaded the trial, it was working just fine. My OS is Sonoma 14.6.1 and the Safari version is 17.6. Tried with Firefox and Chrome, but the same thing happens…it cannot connect to the server 127.0.0.1
Just updated to the latest version and it renders in Safari, no problem. Thank you!
Well, looks like I spoke too soon…The first time after installing the new update it rendered successfully in Safari, but now it’s giving me the same error message as before again. Tried the reset server option to no avail.
