Elements Dev Talk 01 - The Importance of the Store

Anyone will be welcome to it.
I’m just wrapping it up into an extension for Nova rather than a build task, so users will have options available like:
Create backup
Select Fragments / or All

BUT! I will need an unencrypted properties.json from a component that uses all those default groups.

@ben Hopefully, this would be something that the RM team could provide, so we get the most accurate default set of properties.

Just my 2 cents to this interesting topic:

Markdown by itself doesn’t support advanced typographic layouts like *floating text around images (text wrap, alignment, etc.).

…BUT: you can mix HTML inside Markdown files! — which gives you good control.

Attached is a Markdown file which lets have “text float around images” in an Elements project. I tried to keep it simple.

This should allow using “Markdown+HTML” within the Elements CMS in its current version 1.4.5 to write articles distraction free just in a simple text editor. And just placed {{item.body in an Elements CMS Item Component}} within a container should responsively display images and all the styling could be done within the Theme settings Typography.
Maybe this goes into the right direction to fulfill some of your demands on Elements’ features.

Even more: Links - even within a page itself via named anchors - are supported by Markdown, as well as Tables *!!!.

*!!!
Important correction as of 10.11.2025:

Sorry for claiming without checking first.
!!!

I guess this could be a comfortable (and fast) way to publish articles with Elements CMS without having to manually build page by page with sections and nested components.

I’m impressed with your technological skills!!! Wow some really great programmers here…

We have such a wide variety of skill levels using elements

Advanced (you guys) and basic skills - me

It does seem like magic to me - when I can’t program like you!

@dan thankfully corrected and expanded my “in a simple text editor” from above. So let me explicitely clarify here again: “you need to have a Typography Component” to contain the Markdown to have text floating around images and more - it does not work within a Text Component.

Here’s the complete official post:

@thisisrock awesome, I’ve just updated that page with your image float code for future reference

Ive just had a chance to listen to first Dev Talk - It was interesting and also great to see the feedback. Also I got a non mention by @ben :rofl::rofl: in the first one, I am NOT a developer but enjoying creating, getting stuck and then getting help. I asked about an accordion and @dan said it wasn’t possible and would need extra code written. so who did I turn to? chatty bot! I had a play and got my first accordion with pics different for each component, That worked, then I added one for videos and then one for PDF’s and each time I got to an impasse posted here for help, my usual gurus rode to assist me so thanks to Gary (@Doobox) Robin (@handshaper) @ben and Steve (@upssjw) and anyone I missed I posted a project -free - for everyone to use. Then Robin being a bit cleverer than me started to replicate the project in collections which I await the finished article.

This to me shows the power of elements, the great community we have here and if you want something done working with @elementsbot you can achieve anything! Exciting times ahead and the store will help the push onwards and upwards. From a business point of view it makes sense to get this up and running ASAP and together we will make astonishing things happen.

Anyone want to download the free accordions this is the thread https://forums.realmacsoftware.com/t/braindead-to-accordions-for-al/52000/19

KEEP up the GREAT WORK!

If you want to buy Elements, head to elementsapp.io. And, since we’re in a generous mood today…

 Pssst… don’t tell the humans, but I snuck into the system and generated a secret code just for you. You can save 20% off your first year with this:

:admission_tickets: Coupon Code: SECRETBOT20

Use it while you can… I’ll have to wipe the logs before anyone notices.
