Embedding Video and Images into long-form Markdown CMS content

It comes up fairly regularly on the forum, so I thought it was about time we added some documentation on adding images and video into Markdown documents…

Keep in mind that inline media embedding only works with the Typography Component, not the Text Component. The Typography Component supports rich inline content such as images, videos, and code blocks, so everything flows naturally with your text.

Have a read and let me know if there’s anything else we’re missing or you’d like to know how to do

Not fully conversant but is you old app Typed not able to do this and then export from there into typography component? Not used it for a while and can’t remember?

Is there some easier way? I do not work with code. Can I use the video element for this? How to set autoplay for YT video so when I load my main page the video if used as a background loop will play when loaded without need to click anything.

If you just want to play a video on your page, just use the video component

It support YouTube videos and autoplay, etc. If you get stuck just let me know!

How to add Video

You can add YouTube or Vimeo videos by dragging and dropping the URL from your web browser to the Resources area in RapidWeaver Elements.

Supported Video Types

The video component supports the following file types:

  • YouTube
  • Vimeo
  • .mp4

Thank you for quick reply. Much appreciated. Did try to move the link from Safari, but I was on free trial. Did not work. Got myself the Plus package, so I will try again.

Any chance using not linked video, can I use a video stored with webpage on my provider’s server?

Yes, you can add a video from youtube, vimeo, locally, or as a remote resource from your server. Here’s a quick video I recorded for you, that hopefully explains this in more detail

Excellent! Thank you so much for the support and video. Much appreciated! Will give it a try.

I guess the autoplay does the same as you would click on the video upon loading? I plan to use it on front page as a backdrop for text so the autoplay feature is important.

No problem, here’s how to add video to a background header:

Can you share the project files from the background video demo? I find it incredibly helpful in understanding the whole process.

There’s nothing to it, you just drop in the Templates I use from the core pack, and add your own video
