Elements Dev Talk 05: Year in Review and Future Plans

Hello Weavers,

In this week’s Dev Talk, Ben and I look back at just how much has changed in a year. We’ve shipped close to 90 releases of Elements and added hundreds of new features. If you want a sense of the progress, take a look at the release notes going all the way back to beta b29. It’s mind-blowing :exploding_head:

We also dig into the rapid growth of our user base (we’ve sailed past 2,000 paying subscribers) and the huge impact your feedback has had on shaping the app. We talk through major updates, how we balance new features with real-world needs, and where we’re aiming as we move into 2025. The pace has been relentless, but we’re looking forward to another year of amazing progress.

We also make it clear that our focus is shifting away from the Store for a while so we can concentrate on the main app and tackle long-standing issues and feature requests.

Watch the video and share your thoughts below. What do you think we should prioritise in the new year?

@dan

I, personally, vote for component and app polishing and feature completion over store…

To all third-party developers who don’t want to watch the whole video:

At least check out the part starting at 31:30.

@realmacteam I really appreciate that you’re addressing the topic and the issues around the store so openly and transparently in the podcast.
If you had involved potential third-party developers a bit earlier, there would probably be a lot less confusion and frustration on their side now.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you’ll have a finished store version sometime in Q1 of the new year and that all third-party developers will finally be able to sell their existing components and templates.

Keep going!

Even though I’m sure there are tons of talented developers out there who’ve already built amazing components just waiting to be unleashed on us…

…I’m also 100% in favor of getting the Elements app and its core components stable first.
I use Elements literally every day and constantly run into annoying little bugs — fixing those would make the workflow so much more productive.

So from my side as well: app polishing over store.

What is typography? What is different? You mentioned it but not defined it…

Templates and cms development would also be nice…

I’m torn also…

A working store would be great…. Little addons would be fun to add to our sites…

So excited to hear that there is going to be a focus on app polishing as I feel this will not only be good for us longtime Elements users. But ultimately it will be huge benefit to new users as they will not have to deal with the rough edges we have been living and working with, even though I’m not complaining. I just feel this will be good for Elements as it will put the app in a better light.

Plus, by taking care of the polishing people are a lot less likely to take exception when you do go back to focusing on things like the store. You will be able to give it more attention because you are not going to have us nagging you about QOL issues.

Hooray!

I Just checked out the link above, it’s great to see so much work being done. It would be nice to have the dates on each of the release notes… Though I am guessing it could be tracked here on the forums one by one…

Continued success

I started my Elements journey last December 1 year ago and the amount of changes to the app since then is totally mind-blowing. I think I have a to do a workaround for something and then boom it appears as standard. You should be very proud of yourselves and keep up the good work! My vote also goes to finishing and polishing the app off as everyday “problems” fr out with buying something new and then having to learn integrate that as well. To the 3rd party developers, THANKS for all your doing and putting you stuff on marketplace is still currently a vehicle to get your stuff out I assume.

Its so great to see so many of you in ELEMENTS world, pushing the boundaries of ELEMENTS and also seeing so much from “Stackdom” being able to be replicated or improved.

To Everyone here have a great Xmas and New Year and keep on elementing!
