When I move to Element’s hosting, I will lose the dedicated IP address associated with a website from my current host. (Dedicated IPs are typically allocated from the hosting provider’s own IP pool and are tied to one’s account with them.) When I cancel and migrate away, that IP gets released back to the hosting company’s pool for reassignment.
Will Elements hosting offer a new dedicated IP, as an additional service?
Will Elements have a pool of IP addresses available? Planning ahead.
That’s a great question, happy to answer it for you.
So, dedicated IP addresses were once important for certain hosting scenarios, particularly when SSL certificates required a unique IP address per website. However, this is no longer the case due to modern technologies such as Server Name Indication (SNI), which allows multiple secure (HTTPS) websites to share a single IP address while each uses its own SSL certificate.
Because of SNI, websites hosted on our Elements Hosting platform can use fully secure HTTPS connections without needing a dedicated IP address.
There are also additional advantages to using shared IP addresses on modern hosting platforms:
No impact on SSL security or browser compatibility: All modern browsers support SNI, and dedicated IPs provide no additional encryption or security benefits.
Improved IP reputation stability: Since we do not provide email hosting, there is significantly less risk of shared IP addresses being blacklisted due to email spam activity.
Better scalability and efficiency: Shared IP infrastructure allows us to manage IP reputation, performance, and availability more effectively across the platform.
No impact on SEO: Search engines such as Google have confirmed that using a shared IP address does not negatively affect search rankings.
Simplified infrastructure and reliability: Shared IP environments are easier to maintain and monitor, allowing us to ensure consistent uptime and performance.
With the above said, if you require a fully dedicated IP address, we do plan on offering fully dedicated hosting plans (aka a VPS). Each VPS includes its own dedicated IP address, as it is a fully isolated hosting environment. However those product offerings will come later on down the line.
Hope that helps, if you have additional questions please let me know.
