A week or so after publishing an Elements site over the top of a RWC site Google has come back to me saying that Search Console has identified that some pages on your site are not being indexed due to the following new reason: Alternate page with proper canonical tag.
Just wondering if that is going to be related to having a folder of pages and obviously the folder itself does not have a canonical?
If so I won’t worry about it but with RWC I used to generate a third party sitemap.xml file so also wondering whether that would fix it?
If you’re seeing indexing issues or old pages hanging around in Google, it might be worth fully clearing out your old Classic site and any legacy files on your server. Then re-upload a fresh copy of your Elements-built site, it’s the best way to avoid conflicts and make sure only your new content gets picked up.
But then because Google Analytics is showing no visits since I uploaded the site it narrows things down to me not adding the analytics code to the site. Doh. Will sort that and see if it fixes things.
