Force HTTPS

Is it best practice to enable ‘force https’ in reactor control panel?

I have created all my 301’s from legacy pages to point to the respective new https pages.

Hi @DazFisher

If you have a Managed Cloudflare Account with us (you do) and are proxying your traffic through Cloudflare (you are), then it’s not necessary to enable “Force HTTPS” in the Reactor Panel as Cloudflare is already handling the Force HTTPS on their end. :slightly_smiling_face:

Perfect, thanks Dan :+1:

Just out of curiosity. I haven’t hosted with you. My provider offers “force HTTPS” as an option. Does that make sense, or will it cause disadvantages?

Force HTTPS … do it! :waving_hand:

What can I do to get you to change that?! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Almost all browsers nowadays will throw warnings if you try to load pages over plain HTTP, so it no longer makes sense to try and load resources/pages with HTTP links.

The only thing that might break is if you have hard-coded external links that use http:// and there’s no SSL available for the URL, in that case forcing HTTPS might break those links and the browser console would through “Mixed Content” errors until you fixed it.

Doesn’t hurt to turn it on and test out your site to make sure everything’s working fine. You can always turn it off if there is any unexpected behavior and then search for those http:// links and fix them.

Thanks @Pegasus and @differentdan

I just updated all my websites to “force HTTPS”. The downsides you mentioned Dan are not valid in my cases. No hard coded links etc.

Currently very little . I have found some 2 years ago the nearly perfect hosting company for my needs. Fast servers, competent and fast support, 10 domains included, Wordpress installations possible and the price for that is nearly a steal. But you never know. some weeks ago Chilidog was one of the best Hosters and now they are gone.
