Has anyone already set up Strato with Forms or a contact form? It would be great to know exactly how that works and if there’s anything in particular to watch out for.

Yes, most of my sites and clients sites are on Strato. I did not have any problems with the forms and you can DM me for any questions if you want to…

STRATO works perfectly with the Elements forms for all my clients and myself.

And since all of y’all are in the EU, we have our Frankfurt, DE server now, and our backups server is in Nuremburg, DE, so EU data residency on all fronts. 
@differentdan The matter ist not the residency of the data but the origin of the company owning the servers. For the UK, this is better than US but still not EU.
Also using CDNs or services like Cloudflare by default needs to be evaluated from a data security and DSGVO point of view. Cloudflare has access to the IP addresses - and much more in many cases, from credit cards to logins. Cloudflare is subject to the US CLOUD Act and US authorities can have access to all data without any consent.
To use this, I would need consent from any of my clients website visitors, something wich I really do not want to hassle with. And if you are using Reverse Proxy the IP address is already transmitted before any consent can be given. In addition I need a data‑processing contract (DPA) and create a Transfer Impact Assessment.
These concerns regarding the GDPR are unfortunately also the reason why I probably won’t switch to Elements at the moment.
Data residency actually does play a part in the equation, but yes there is more to the compliance patchwork.
That’s why Cloudflare is optional. It’s not a requirement of hosting with us, although we do recommend it for the performance and security optimizations. If you don’t want to use Cloudflare, you are free to use your own DNS and/or CDN provider.
There is an Adequacy agreement between the EU and the UK in regards to GDPR, so no additional safeguards are necessary when data is transferred between an EU country and the UK. They just updated their Adequacy agreement in December of 2025 which I believe is good for several years.
I can’t speak for Germany specific laws though like DSGVO in regards to data transfer between Germany and the UK.

Having Cloudflare optional is very good news. That makes things easier. I do think elements hosting is the best offer and support any elements or RW user can get.
I stick with Strato as I have everything - from mails to hosting to DNS - in one place (and all is set up for many years now).
For everyone else: Please take Elements hosting into account
