just a thought I am rebuilding an old Rapidweaver page I had. And I am dropping the images into the resources. What I realized is that when the images are different and the Layout Columns are not hight enough it ends up with a sizing issue. I use the square option.
Also would it be possible to show caption, author on the lighbox?
Really difficult to know what is going on without seeing how you’re built up that grid layout of images — got a URL or project we can look at? 
I think I figured it out. Since this was an old RapidWeaver project the images have a width / height of 640px. Thats how it was setup. For that reason it just takes the max width / height and squares it.
