Is there a way to tell Gallery pro to populate the Caption field with the file name of the image?
I actually have a whole list of things with Gallery Pro that I brought up previously. Yours was one: That for some reason there isn’t a name field.
Also, for YouTube playlists, there’s no name, no caption, so you can’t tell what anything is in a playlist until you actually click on them.
Hopefully this will just be a reminder to look into this stuff again in case it did fall off. I’ll try to link my previous post in here as well. There are a few odd things about Gallery Pro that could use to be updated to make it a full Pro plugin, and yours is definitely one of them that I had identified.

I don’t know if you guys on the developer side are still just totally neck deep in the version switch, and that’s why things aren’t being addressed regarding this plugin. I would assume that’s still the case. But since this question has been asked, I figure I would link up to my original post. I figure that it’s not appropriate yet to try to bump it while the version switch is still ongoing.
Actually, I was thinking about what you said, and I realized it was slightly different than I thought, and there’s a possible issue with your idea.
If I bring a whole bunch of images in, and I’ve just added a bunch of metadata in to all of those images (which I do), then I would not want it to do what you’re saying.
So, I would think that the better behavior would be if somebody drops a bunch of images into a folder, and that gets then dropped into a Gallery Pro component, if there isn’t already metadata in there, then pull file names, add them to either the missing name field or the caption field in the interim. Otherwise leave existing metadata alone so it can be used to display a description.
I certainly don’t want the plugin to overwrite my metadata.
It, of course, could just be a check box, which is informed consent, and would overwrite the data. And by simply not checking it, it won’t. So I guess that’s the obvious solution. And what you actually asked for.
