Just making sure I have this right since it is hard to tell visually.

“The thumbnail width should be calculated based on the container width divided by the number of columns you want to display.”

Does the size of the original images make a difference in the thumbnail setting?

No. The thumbnail width setting will resize the original image to that width, keeping the aspect ratio intact.

I am still not understanding this setting.

Comparing browser screenshots, 480, based on the above calculation is slightly less clear than a 1000 setting .

the setting resizes the file, as if you were using an image processor and exporting it at a set size.

It doesn’t not affect the display size of the image.

One key thing to note is that Elements will resize the image for retina, so if you enter 100 in the setting, the image will be resized to 200px wide.
