Videos are displayed correctly in the overview only when using a WebKit browser. In all other browsers, only a gray frame with the “Play Movie” button is visible. This is very unattractive because, unlike with the video component, you cannot add a thumbnail.

the issues occur with all browsers that are not based on WebKit, such as Safari.
I use macOS 26.5.1
Safari and Safari Technology Preview work as shown in the Elements preview.
Safari version 26.5 (21624.2.5.11.4) works
Safari Technology Preview Release 246 (WebKit 22625.1.20.19.1) works
All other browsers cause problems. The preview or thumbnail is not displayed. If I click on an image and then on the video’s play button, the video plays (sometimes with a long loading time).
The following browsers has this behavior on my Mac:
Opera Version: 133.0.5932.10 (arm64)
Firefox Version 140.12.0esr (aarch64)
Vivaldi Version 8.0.4033.54 (Official Build) (arm64)
Omniweb Version 6.0 test (v636.0.14)
Windows users report that videos cannot be viewed at all. I do not have a Windows computer to test this. Using VMware Fusion, I can observe the following behavior:
VMware Fusion Version Professional 26H1 (25388279)
Windows 11 Version 25H2 (build 26200.8737)
The videos play in Firefox.
Firefox Version 152.0.4 (64-bit)
Edge and Opera do not play the videos. Sometimes i get the message Oops… Failed to load content
Edge Version 149.0.4022.98 (Official Build) (arm64)
Opera Version: 133.0.5932.10
Ah I see the issue now, it would seem like the thumbnail is trying to display the video file as an image. I think that’s the issue here.
I’ll add this as a ticket to investigate and fix.
In the meantime, have you considered using YouTube to host your videos? Maybe that’s not an option for you, but YouTube is free to use and usually more reliable than hosting your own videos
When will there be an update to fix these bugs? YouTube isn’t an alternative, since the videos are related to the photos. Besides, this feature is already available in Gallery Pro. At that price, there should be updates soon.
