Gallery Videos No Show

RapidWeaver Elements 3.0.18 (24628)

Hi, hoping for some guidance in getting local videos to play back. Specifically in a gallery, but this applies across the board, with direct video component as well.

In a gallery, I see the video still image, but when I click on it the lightbox activates - the background blurs out - but the video does not display. Only the caption name shows up.

You can see this behavior in this video capture, where I’m using the l/r arrow to move from one video, to a still (which does show) and then another video:

These are .mp4 videos. I have tried placing them in the same folder as the elements file, and no difference. FWIW, the video component is also not playing.

Any thoughts, corrections, advice is much appreciated!

Hey, thanks for the clear report and the screen capture. We’re looking into the Gallery local .mp4 playback issue (and the Video component too) and will update here.

FWIW, I re-installed a version of 2.4.4, and the behavior is similar. Images and remote (youtube) videos display and lightbox properly. Local videos show up in the elements app, but when previewed in the browser they fail to load/display in the same way. LMK if there’s anything I can test/send to help your investigation/resolution on this.

Thanks for testing 2.4.4 too, that’s really helpful. It tells us this isn’t something new in 3.x. I’ve logged it with the team, and we’ll update here once we know more.

Thanks again! I’ll keep an eye out.

Hi @colinmac - saw the latest update, props to you folks for continuing to roll out fixes and new stuff. I posted this in the notes for that announcement, but still not quite there from my position. The standalone video component now does play local videos. Hooray!

However, local videos in the gallery component continue to have a problem. They now appear as thumbnails; when you click on a thumbnail the lighbox opens showing the first frame of the video; but when you click on the video itself there is NO playback. (Tried both clicking on the video as expected behavior and the play button.) This is dragging a new gallery component in, not depending on my old one in case there was some legacy issue there.

Please let me know if there is any screen cap or file I can supply to help in identifying and resolving this. I appreciate you guys working to resolve and hoping for a quick solution with all the features. (Or happy to be told, “Hey, did you flip this control correctly?” lol.)

Update to above: this is the behavior in Chrome. In Safari it is slightly different. Clicking on the thumbnail brings up the lightbox with the video image and a play icon in the center. But when clicking on that, the video image disappears, leaving only the play bar below. Clicking the play arrow down there does not play the video either.

Hi @dgchichester

I’ve been trying to reproduce this issue, and I’m wondering if you have spaces in the name of the video files?

Ah, thanks for that no spaces or characters tip, @ben ! Sorry if I missed that in the instructions. If it’s not there, it would be good to include that!

THIS gets the videos up in the gallery, and they DO play when you click on them.

Still some ERRANT behavior though when previewing in Chrome.

1. Click on a video (VIDEO 1), lightbox opens. Click play arrow. Video 1 plays. While Video 1 is playing, advance IN LIGHTBOX with nav arrow to next video (VIDEO 2) — and SOUND from Video 1 continues to play. This continues to play even when clicking Video 2 to play — so you end up with both sounds playing on top of each other.

2. Click on a video (VIDEO 1), lightbox opens. Click play arrow. Video 1 plays. Stop Video 1. Use right Nav arrow to advance to next Video (Video 2). Play Video 2. Pause Video 2. Use Left Nav arrow to return to Video 1. Video 1 is still paused AT THE SAME POINT — it has not reset to start, which I would say is expected behavior for video carousels. (Use right Nav arrow to return to Video 2 and it is also still paused AT THE SAME POINT instead of resetting to start.)

3. Click on a video (VIDEO 1), lightbox opens. Click play arrow. Video 1 plays. While Video 1 is playing click close button. LIGHTBOX closes, but sound from Video 1 continues to play.

Thanks again for being responsive, and please let me know if I can document or explain this behavior in any way to help you sort things out.

Best, Dan

Thanks @dgchichester for the helpful info!

Happy to hear dropping spaces / special characters got the videos showing and playing

On the Chrome lightbox quirks: we’re fixing the sound that keeps playing when you advance to the next slide, and when you close the lightbox. Those should be fixed in the next release!

Encouraging to hear! Thanks for the response and working out the kinks.
