Getting started - need to make an author website

I just picked up RW8 and know that Stacks4 is my next purchase. With that in mind, I am A) looking for a good theme that is going to support a writer’s website (see below), and B) come up with a list of stacks I will need next. Hoping to narrow down a list and find some deals after Thanksgiving.

The website needs the following:

  • Main page
  • List of Books page
  • Book Series #1 page
  • Book Series #2 page
  • Book Series #3 page
  • Blog page
  • About page, w/a press kit download
  • Contact page
  • sign up for free book page (capture email, then send to BookFunnel for delivery)

As far as themes go, I have the three premium themes that came w/RW (Aspen, Marvel, Royale). I did read somewhere that Ventura (Archetypon) might be good for writers. Any other themes come to mind?

I have to say, after testing the WP waters, security has me concerned—my test site was besieged and ultimately hacked. Fortunately, there wasn’t anything to loose, but still… How is security addressed w/RW?

Anyhow, looking forward to joining the community and hearing your thoughts.

Thanks,
Luis

You might have a look at some of Themeflood themes. You can download try before you buy versions of all of them.

You could also have a look at some of the Frameworks like Foundry or Foundation. They’re not a traditional theme, but a “blank” theme that you can build your pages anyway you like them.

The Frameworks come with stacks that must only be used with their themes.
You can use other 3rd party stacks if you need to, but the stacks that come with Foundry must be used with the Foundry theme. Same goes for Foundation and all the other frameworks.

There’s a learning curve with all the frameworks. There more difficult to learn, but you get much more flexibility.

Thanks for the suggestions.
