GLOBALS UI Improvement Request

Problem:

When selecting containers and items on a page, and then choosing to create a new global, The new generically named global appears randomly in the list of existing globals. It is needlessly difficult to find the new global you created in the list of globals.

Causes

  1. The newly created global has a generic name, like “Container”. Which can appear in a list of a other globals named Container, and you have no idea which one you just made.
  2. The newly created global is dropped (in what appears to be random order) anywhere in the existing list of globals. Not at the top or bottom, inside the list.

Solution:

a few options…

  1. When choosing to create a new global, A popup dialog asks what you want to name the new global, you type in the name and hit the OK button. [[This is a preferred option since you can keep working after hitting the OK button and your global now has a meaningful name.]]

  2. The new global appears in the list of globals, with its name highlighted, ready for you to type the new name. [[less preferred option because it requires you to now jump to (or find) the globals panel and change the name]]

  3. The new global appears at the TOP of the list of globals. This would at least make it a little easier to locate the new global later and change the name.

Additional question… what is the listed order of the globals? The order makes no sense that I can see. Certainly not alphabetical, not driven by date because most of my new globals appear down in the middle of the long list…

That’s a fair point, what I would recommend is renaming the component in the Node browser before converting it into a global. Like this…

Oh, and we plan to add better organisation for Globals in a future update :+1:
