Groundhog Day Today! Feb. 2

Since the 1800s, Groundhog Day has been observed on Feb. 2. The longstanding tradition calls for the fur-bearing weather forecasters to tell us if spring is coming.

According to lore, if groundhogs — known as woodchucks in Michigan — emerge from their burrows and:

  • see their shadow: They will retreat and there will be six more weeks of wintry weather.

  • don’t see their shadows: Early spring weather is right around the corner, and we can expect warm temperatures in the coming weeks.

Here’s what to know about Groundhog Day, including what time Phil will make his prediction in 2026.

When is Groundhog Day?

Groundhog Day is Monday, Feb. 2.

Very funny

I laughed at the theater- I thought it was a comedy at first viewing…

A classic movie for sure, will have to give it a rewatch.

Nice! Six more weeks to stay at home in the warmth and spend time with RW Elements. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I will travel to Spain next week. There it should have 20°C and I will work on the beach

Thank you Phil :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Ahh, life’s a beach, as we say.
