Help setting up Form Settings in Elements - RESOLVED

Hello! I need assistance setting up form settings in Elements, along with the corresponding submit button. Below is a screenshot of the completed settings section, the hosting Username, and Password.

What am I doing wrong here? Help please!

The from address needs to be the the same email address as the to address (you receive and send from the same server).

Thank you, Jan, for your help! I’m having additional issues with the form, but I am hoping that this will help move me along. I appreciate your time!

Hi @TomRw

The Host field is not correct. You need to enter either mail.yourdomain.com, or use HostGator’s server hostname in the Host field.

Also with 465 Port you need to select SSL as the Encryption type right below it.

Your From Address is wrong, it needs to be an email address, not a domain name, and the From Address needs to match the Username field.

Basically you have a lot of errors in your form that need fixing. :slightly_smiling_face:

This is something we plan to solve in the coming weeks.

In the meantime let us know if you still have troubles getting everything resolved (which I imagine with HostGator you might )

Dan I am setting up my form today - as planned - and this post was so timely! I have the form giving me this error :There was an error submitting the form. Please try again.”

I attach my set up below and wonder what I am doing wrong. TIA

What’s the website? I don’t see a Contact Page on mooreuk.co.uk.

the website is just in truial at moment so I can test and get everything working thats trial.dontbeaclot.com the website will be ezyasabc.co.uk but my email is as in screen shot. TIA

But the test-website is already on the server you apply the email settings for? Otherwise it will not work…

Jan Thanks - I am hosted with Chillidog and I have one folder - dont ask me why where I test everything before moving it over to live site. My email is hosted there and runs very well without problem. My site on the trial is my new ezyasabc.co.uk site which I am testing and improving SEO etc. The only thing the doesn’t work is the contact form. The settings are all correct in terms of inputs and spell checked etc. but the submit gives an error. So pardon my ignorance isn’t this form submitted through my STMP file sever as per my pone/pad/computer as they are all working fine? THNKS for your time.

Are you using Chillidog’s Add-on Email service, or are you just using the email that comes bundled with the web hosting package?

Anyway the API check isn’t even working on your test site Contact so something else is amiss.

I don’t have a Chillidog account to test on. Can you send over the project file via Elements Cloud so we can take a look?

Dan I have a hosting package that includes mail/websites/newsletters etc. I’m now way from computer until tomorrow as just going out so will do over weekend.

Sounds good, let me know if you need more help on it when you are back.

I have uploaded my file and sent the link to open it to support email as I do not want this file in public hands just yet as it contains business information. Over to you THANKS for your help!

Hi @PMUK

I don’t usually work on Saturdays however I had a quick look at the form you sent me.

A couple errors, one I could resolve, two that you will have to resolve.

First, you will need to navigate to your Contact Page >> Form component >> Click on that “Message” input field, and then give it a name of message as shown in the below screenshot.

For some reason you had entered email in that Name field. Your Email field two rows up is already using the name email and you can’t use the same name twice in these Input settings, so you need to give your Message field a unique name. So, I changed it to message like in the screenshot and re-uploaded your site. That fixed that error.

Second, you’ll need to make sure you are on PHP 8.2 or above for this site. PHP 8.1 and below is no longer working for the form component. We really recommend PHP 8.4 if you can switch over to that. Once you switch the PHP to 8.2 or above, the API Check should start working saying everything is ok.

Finally, your form still would not submit, because it says your SMTP details you entered are not correct. I tried logging into your webmail at Chillidog with the username and password you provided in the form, but it said the login credentials were not correct. So I’m assuming you aren’t using the correct SMTP credentials in the form settings.

You’ll need to double and triple check the below settings:

Host
Port
Encryption
Username
Password

To make sure they are all correct. If you aren’t sure of those settings, please reach out to Chillidog Support so they can supply them to you.

Once you get all that fixed the form should start working, but if not let me know and I can further investigate.

I won’t be back on until Monday, so happy weekend.

So why are you working and making me work on a Saturday too? :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

I have just changed field and republished all files and sent myself a message and get the same error.

There was an error submitting the form. Please try again.

I am also working with Brian at Chillidog to ensure the rest is OK I am pHp 8.2 and Brian has tweaked things his end and can not see why its not working yet.

So on MONDYA when you read this you will see that I said HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

I do hope you did? Take Care!

Back to working on the form. It appears that I have my form set up correctly, but my temp ERROR message appears after sending the form.

Do you think it’s an issue with HostGator settings?

Hi, why is your username to access your email for the company a yahoo address? Is this the same login you use when you e. g. access the webmail function of hostgator to see the mails for info@avionenergy.com ?

Can you try upgrading to PHP 8.4 to see if that resolves the issue for you.

It would also be worth checking the Form Docs, to ensure you have everything set up correctly.

Ok so I am now on PHP 8.4 (ea-php84) and I have re-published all files and still gets the same error There was an error submitting the form. Please try again.

I have spent hours going around in circles for over a week now. I have had support form Greg/Brian at Chillidog, The Other Dan from you and its still does not work. This is the basic Contact Form supplied in Essentials pack. After a few days The Other Dan spotted there were two fields named same in form. This was reported to Ben and he’s updated it for next update. Having resolved this under instruction fro Chiilidog I have changed Host/Port None/TLS/SSL Domain names/emails multiple times to try to get it to work. It doesn’t still even with PhP Update to 8.4.

Yesterday The Other Dan arranged a zoom call to check everything out and I waited on zoom for over an hour and he never materialised hence my post “was he OK?”

I am left with a wonderful new Essentials E-Commerce site ready to go without a functioning Contact form, so I am not prepared to take it out of trial until this is fixed. It was never this difficult before in RW8/Classic so I can not understand why it is now? This is out of ignorance of all settings as I just did what I was instructed by support.

Apologies for rant but this is making me frustrated as I need to get my site up and running and I am stuck on this one matter. TIA

A hurricane/storm blew through Portugal early hours of yesterday morning, and his town was right in the direct path.

Thankfully Dan’s apartment was not too damaged and his car was not damaged. Lots of his neighbours weren’t so lucky.

They’ve still got no power, no water, and there’s no mobile signal around his neighbourhood.

He sends his apologies for missing the call, but most importantly he is okay. He’s going to keep me updated on how things are going.

Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:
