How can I create a 'custom menu' in my trumpet site?

I’d like to create a fixed new menu with: Beginner • Intermediate • Advanced • Free Music • Forum • Shop and then page links underneath…

It has been suggested that the tree menu is somewhat overwhelming and might cause people to immediately bounce off the site

I know there must be a way.. I just can’t figure it out

I added a fixed ‘menu bar’ by me and not the component at TrumpetStudio.com

The amount of Elements that I don’t know is staggering…

Put Grid in Flex?
Use accordion or dropdown?
Massive spacing issues…
Column or Row? Wrap or no wrap?

Been playing with settings for 2 hours trying to get what I want…

Can’t get there…

Here are examples…

So this is beyond my level of knowledge…

Yes I could learn… But I need to see the final results and look at the settings of how it was done.. for me to learn

So many areas of spacing and alignment: Where do you do it at the container level? flex box level? Grid Level? or text Level?

So I’ve gotten as far as I could, then delete it - I’m sure that you could whip up a faster - better - homemade fixed menu - that changes from full screen to mobile

Or

What I’m asking is not possible with elements yet?

I am will to pay for your time in programming a solution - and then learning from it

The problem as I see it - is making the custom menu that can adapt from full screen to mobile - maybe its easy  dont know…

Why not just use Elements menu, use folders with those headings, put links underneath, auto switch to mobile then, unless I misunderstand your requirement

Do you have an example of a site menu you’d like to re-create? A third-party website we can go and look at would be perfect!

If you can provide a clear vision of the menu structure you need, we can advise you on the best way to do it

I can’t use the stock menu it will change my left menu on the site…

Just simple: with blue star TrumpetStudio.com then: Beginner • Intermediate • Advanced • Free Music • Forum • Shop and then I will select appropriate page links from website underneath…

But was running into problems:

When in mobile: content got covered up by menu

Currently just made the star :star: and TrumpetStudio.com - so that when it is in mobile it doesn’t expand and and cover up content

Hopefully that made sense…

Why not just use a simple menu template? Does this help at all…

you could just hide and show, both or one, do the same for your top bar, or did you need completely different menus

I was looking to create separate menus

New categories and select content on top

Everything on the side vertical menu…

  • on the road now - going to the department of motor vehicles in Illinois - takes many hours….

I think  I can make Dan’s Top Pages Work…

Didn’t know about that…. (Top pages) very :+1: good

Not perfect - but better…

Trying not to change page names and location in the site - 30 years of external links to specific pages and content…

I really wanted a ‘custom’ menu bar…

But can’t figure it out and top pages was easy…

And it’s small enough to not be a problem in mobile…

So - the categories are different - but accessible

I’m still not entirely sure what you want, you’ve never given a concrete example. if you did we’d be able to advise on the solution

However, i’d suggest doing something like this (see below). The Tree navigation now supports selecting a sub page or folder and displaying just the contents of that…

I am sorry, Dan and everyone who’s trying to help sometimes I don’t express myself well or explain well enough.

I am looking for two separate menus with two separate content listings.

They are not the same and are different.

Mostly on the top, I wanted to have beginner intermediate and advanced selections for instant access to curated content for those players and then along with that forums shopping and free stuff…

So I’m trying to create two different menus.

The one on top will have special pages that I select for that Trumpet players level.

The one on the left will show everything…

Does that make sense? I can explain better if there’s something that’s not making sense.

I thought I had to make my own menu and not use existing components…

I believe you can do exactly what you want with the built-in navigation components, probably use “Top Pages” and “Tree”.

Both have the options you need to make this work.
On tree you an use “Active Page” or manually Select the page to use/

Thanx - will give it another try….

I thought Top Pages was only the ‘first level’

Will try again - after the Chicago Bears Game

It’s Ok - What I really want is Two Separate Menus - Each with their own content

To get top pages or tree to work I have to restructure folders and pages - Don’t Want to do that…

I had just wanted Initially: a new different menu with: Beginner • Intermediate • Advanced • Free Music • Forum • Shop and then page links underneath…

I don’t Have Folders with Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced…

I wanted to Organize my content differently into those three categories and still leave the left tree menu unchanged - So that - a trumpet player would select beginner then get those articles, lessons, books, and resources for that level

But without again changing the left tree menu…

So it look like the only way I’m seeing - is to:

  1. Restructure the site
  2. Create Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Folders
  3. Drop those specific pages into those folders

I didn’t want to do that - because people will not see ALL the resources like they can now on the left tree menu

Getting Close - Copied the settings from Dan ‘Features’ Section and Made the Menu

Whole thing in a container: in a grid: then Flex Container Text for each (see Picture)

It works until I go down in screen size, then it messes up
Can’t see what settings Dan did in ‘Features’ to make it transition so nicely to mobile …

just some feedback, not sure you intended, lot of white space in desktop

Yes - Like White Space - Clean and Uncluttered

Hans gave me a great idea: Use top pages - BUT LINKS!!! DUH YES

Got it working and looking like I want - Except for Mobile:

Thanx

Going a different Direction… Using the simple menu and Top Pages

SPECIAL THANK YOU TO HANS!

He has been sending me files to try and get this working

THANK YOU DO MUCH!!!

What do you mean fix? You’ll need to let us know how you want it to look :stuck_out_tongue:
