Hi peeps, I’m trying to build a gallery which has one thumbnail showing, which when clicked, opens a lightbox showing a folder of images. I managed it in RW classic but I’m stumped attempting it in Elements.
Basically, I have a number of different galleries but I don’t want my gallery page showing all the thumbnails of each gallery as it’s too cluttered, just need one thumbnail image for each gallery.
Thanks for the quick response @dan. Not sure that’s going to do what I want though. I don’t really want a lightbox opening in a new page. That could get very messy if I have twenty galleries on my galleries page and each one then opens a new page.
Is it not possible to hide all but one image in the “gallery” component on the page, but have all showing in the lightbox? I’m sure you wonderful people could maybe put this feature on your to do list.
To be honest, this feature is the one thing that I’ve found to be missing in Elements, which is, otherwise, an absolutely stunning achievement by the Realmac team.
That’s a good example, thanks for sharing the link. The current Gallery component doesn’t support showing a single thumbnail that opens a larger lightbox set containing additional hidden images.
You could try reworking the layout slightly so it fits naturally with what Elements can currently do…
Thanks @dan, really appreciate you taking time over this.
Unless I’ve missed something , if I have 10 galleries on a gallery page, each of which contains 10 images, I either have 100 thumbnails on that page, or 10 links which will open individual galleries on 10 new pages. Neither solution seems terribly clean or efficient.
It would be wonderful if, at some point, Elements had the ability to hide all but one of the thumbnails in a gallery. I live in hope Again, thanks for your help.
There is a really robust gallery (Nextgen Gallery or I think it is now called Imagely Gallery) for WordPress. It is a full featured product to sell images, etc. They have the notion of Albums and Galleries. It is overkill for just family snapshots, but if you’re a pro photographer with 10s of thousands of images - it is the tool.
Totally understand! I started looking for alternatives when all the 3rd party developers were put out of business by Realmac software…. I was a big user of Foundry and other tools that Adam Shiver used to make. So, i made the move to Wordpress and bought the lifetime option on the gallery software,
Everything changes, Chris. I’ll hang on until the great team at Realmac, or someone else, comes up with a solution. There has to be a certain demand or there wouldn’t be 258 views on this thread.
I’ll chat to @ben about this, but I’m sure us or someone else will be able to build this into a Gallery component… The store is due to go live next month so once that happens I think we’ll start to see a lot of new solutions emerge
Thanks Steve @upssjw , brilliant of you to go to the trouble.
It’s close! Certainly closer than I managed . What I’m really after is a click on the thumbnail opens the lightbox containing all the gallery images, so missing out your second click. But I can certainly use this. Many, many thanks. I owe you a pint!
