I have just added age verification into the body of my site which affects all the pages including the index page. Is it possible possible to keep the index page free of any code as I don’t want it to used in conjunction with the Age verification.

Yes - don’t insert the code on the global settings, but on a per-page basis.
So remove the code from the spot you have it now, and instead insert it here (for every page where the age verification should be active):
