Introduction & start up help

Hi, I’m a retired veterinary surgeon who has dabbled with web sites for 25 years.

My latest one for our holiday flat was done using Rapidweaver www.12burghislandcauseway.co.uk using a theme ‘Royale’. I decided I needed to switch to elements, I’ve bought the same theme now ‘Expose’ in a package with two others. I’m falling at the first hurdle, I cant figure out how to get them into Elements to use.

I’m probably a typical old school Mac user (my first was a fat Mac) and haven’t read the relevant part of the manual.

Hi @peterfishvet

If you just click on the project file(s) they will automatically open in Elements, and then you can save the project file as you are working on it. When saving, you can select which directory on your Mac you want to save the project file to, such as your Documents folder, or your Desktop folder, etc.

There’s not a way to import the project file into the New Project window because we are in the process of migrating to the new Elements store, and getting that all set up and prepared.

If that’s not what you are asking let me know.

Hi Peter and thanks for using Ascent :folded_hands:

In Elements, the theme (in Classic) and project are merged together, meaning you don’t have to install anything else; you simply use the project as a basis for your work, then create a site for publishing.

For projects in the future internal store:

The only “installation” will be possible for products available in the integrated store, but even then, you’ll only have the original project in the Elements archive, and that project is completely disconnected from your file saved on disk when you start designing your site.

Automatic layout updates (updating the existing theme with an upgrade) in Classic are not possible, two different things

Updating the project in the internal store will have no effect on your project. They are completely disconnected, and if new pages are added in the update, you’ll have to manually copy and paste each individual element.

The only things that can be updated in your project without manual action are the Elements core components used in the project (and future Elements components in the Store, but only if they are present in the project).

Basically the copy of the project in the store archive is the product you purchased, the same thing as downloading a master and then saving it to your disk, the difference is that it is always up to date and integrated, these are the advantages for projects.

I hope this clarifies things, as I get similar requests from other users as well.

These are two different things, and understandably, for almost all users coming from Classic, we risk getting confused.

Furthermore, some terms in Elements are the same as in Classic but have a completely different meaning, such as themes (which in Classic are stiles, were the layout, font, and color settings of the installed and current theme), and (in our case) installed addons.
