On my site I have only part built 2 pages, all the rest are empty. However, I have input the names of the other 35 empty pages.
I have also included in Elements Resources all Fonts, Audios, PDFs, Videos and Images which are a little over 5GB in the Classic system.
As it now stands my Elements file is 10.66GB.
Is this what I should expected?
Would it be a good idea to remove most of these files from Elements, place them in a resources folder on my site, and reference them in Elements as a URL?
Cheers
okay, this is WAY too big!
It’s always a good idea to prepare and optimise your media for the web before importing it, especially large files like videos, audio, and high-res images. Uncompressed or oversized files can quickly inflate your project size and slow things down, both in the app and for your site visitors.
In general, I’d recommend:
- Compressing images using tools like Squash, TinyPNG or ImageOptim.
- Optimizing videos for the web using formats like MP4 (H.264) and reducing resolution/bitrate where possible.
- Hosting larger files externally (videos, audio, PDFs, etc.) and linking to them using URLs. That keeps your project lightweight and more manageable in the long run.
So yes, moving larger resources to a dedicated folder on your server and referencing them via URL is a great approach, especially for media-heavy sites.
Hope that helps, and shout if you need a hand with any of the steps!
