List of the settings that must be used to control the image sizes in Elements

Could someone list, in order of importance and arrival, the settings that will impact the size of an image in RapidWeaver Elements? Responsive settings included.

I have followed the development from the beginning and have been using RapidWeaver since the first version. But with Elements, I must admit that I’m struggling with image size management. Most of the time, I can change the settings as much as I want, but it does not affect the image that is selected. Big frustration… :joy:

When I talk about listing the things that will impact resizing, I’m referring also to the ‘Screens’ settings in ‘Responsive Breakpoints’. Dan makes it look really simple in the videos, but I can’t do it. :face_with_head_bandage:

Many thanks to anyone who has the patience to respond. :star_struck:

Long live RapidWeaver!

Small blue dot

When you’re in the screen size activate the small blue dot on the left and then choose the size

I’m not at the computer. I’m doing this through my phone otherwise I would send you a screenshot.

Thank you for your answer, Michael. I’m using the blue dot to try to change the image dimensions according to the responsive device, but something is blocking it somewhere. I’ve looked at templates that work perfectly, but I can’t see where I’m going wrong.

Hi Frederic,

Do you begin by the smallest screen-size (phone) and then the larger ones ?

Hello Anne, French ? Thank you for your answer. Yes, I start from the ‘mobile’ option, but then the overwriting and size management doesn’t seem to work, despite the blue dots…

Perhaps, you could publish a simple project with the problem through elementsapp.
I am sure that somebody will look at it and find a solution.

And yes, I am French, nobody’s perfect…

Super simple, but getting mad with image dimensions… and not only when it comes to responsive design… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Thank you for your time

Here’s a VERY basic example for you. The images are poor quality because I just took them from your website link but it gives you the idea. Hope it helps?

Hello Paul, thank you for your time. The link says “Error Downloading document”. Any idea ? Best regards. Fred

looks like you are using a 2 column grid

are you trying just to copy the the image and the text to the right, just a 2 column gris with a change on whatever screen size you want

or image specific sizing, either by dropping the component straight on the page or in a file container single grid or background

different ways different control

weird try it againelementsapp://downloadDocument/Qu2okzGDjfYS

Hello Steve, thank you for the video. You’re showing me exactly what I’m targeting…

Which one or all there are different ways, was it the grid view with image left and text right then switch to image above and text underneath

Paul, your file works fine (much better than mine  ). Could you please list the settings that you changed compared to a blank project ? When I try to limit the image size to its original size, I don’t see any change… any idea ?

I’m just out to watch my son in starting part of Matilda and not at computer until tomorrow. I just started a brand new project copied you images from website and went to standard phone view. Added container popped in pictures and changed top container - not image to full width. No other changes. If you’re struggling look in templates and drop one of them in to play with or wait for someone else to help. It’ll be tomorrow before I can get back to you. Apologies.

I have found that the major issue I have with any layout item is that I forget the Parent to child to “sub-child” relationship. If you set a margin/padding or layout size at the wrong level it really can reek havoc on brain cells trying to figure out why it doesn’t look like you think it should when you change a Parent layout.
I try to use the “topmost” container first if possible to keep the children under control. If I need to add a container I’ll do that.

I’m not very good at this, but this is what I’ve picked up in the learning process.

I hope this makes sense and helps.

ps. also remember to work phone size to large screen and use those little blue dots to override settings as you work up.

Hello, thank you all for your help and question & answers. You really helped me to rethink my building method. I started from scratch with a new site, setting the spacing in the containers, but it did not go very well. I made a new site with the spacing set in the components inside the container, and now it works much better. So thank you again for pointing out the small mistakes I made. I forgot to mention that I did not previously understand that after the size in pixels, I had to put ‘px’ or ‘%’. Thanks again.
