Matching image size to container width

I remember seeing a thread somewhere that said that something about matching the pixel width of an image with the pixel width of the column it was going to be living inside. A 1200 pixel wide image was going display 340 pixels if the column is 340 pixels wide. The extra 800 pixels were just extra weight that gummed thing up.

My question has to do with site images that live in a container in Foundry.
If the default size of the container seems to be 1140 pixels wide.
What would be the optimum size image for this container"

If you want the image to be full width inside the container, then it’s 1140px.

Thanks for the clarification.
