Need RapidWeaver 8 Download Link

Hello Dan,

This a desperate plea for help.

For many years I have been the custodian of the website for our small but active Welsh Society here in Sheffield.

Having built a simple website using Rapid Weaver I have for many years been able to edit and publish our web site

www.sheffieldcambrians.org

Our small society uses RapidWeaver 8.9.4 and when Elements came on the scene we felt financially unable to upgrade. I did get in touch with you and you kindly said I could continue using 8.9.4 whilst accepting that it would not be supported indefinitely.

As our website is fairly simple that has been perfectly adequate for our meagre needs and I have been using it and publishing until very recently.

However during my last edit I was trying to incorporate a photo and although I was able publish it before my Mac computer became unstable and crashed.

Sadly I am now unable to continue using 8.9.4. I have tried to download a copy of 8.9.4 from your website but when I run it what I get is 9.6.8!

My projects ends in .rw8 and so do not run.

Is there any way you can help as this is an embarrasment for me?

Our society is unable financially to move to Elements and my computer expertise and age (87) would make that difficult. I cannot contemplate such a move.

Hence my plea for help.

I should add that until now I have been very satisfied with the product.

Can I add that we are able to make a small contribution if that solves our problem.

Many thanks.

John

Hi John,

No problem, here is a link to download RapidWaver 8.9, this should get you back up and running.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or need further help.

Hi Dan,

Many thanks for your very rapid response.

I have clicked on the link and what appears in my downloads is

RapidWeaver 8-2.app

Having copied this to my Applications and trying to open I find that nothing happens and my Mac tells me that RapidWeaver is not responding.

Sorry about this but is there anything I am doing wrong or could there be some corruption on my computer.

Quite a problem for me.

Many thanks again,

Best wishes,

John

Hi @JohnCambrian

Try this link, it should be RapidWeaver 8.9.4.

Move that version of the app to your Applications folder and let us know if you have continued issues with it.

Hi Dan,

Thanks.

Downloaded the link and what I get in my downloads is

RapidWeaver 8-2.app.

On copying this into my Applications and clicking it does not open and the computer says it is not responding.

What is going on?

Sorry to be a nuisance.

Best wishes,

John

Can you try restarting your Mac and then launching RapidWeaver again?

Dan,

Tried restart but same problem. RapidWeaver refuses to open. Computer then says RW is not responding.

John

It sounds like it might be more of a system-wide issue with your Mac rather than something specific to RapidWeaver. Especially as this version used to run fine on your Mac.

Are all other apps working as expected on your system?

Do you have access to a different Mac you can use to test RapidWeaver on?

RapidWeaver 8-2.app would tend to indicate that this is the third instance of RapidWeaver 8 and Finder has named this new version appropriately (the first version was RapidWeaver 8, then RapidWeaver 8-1, then 8-2). I’m not sure what happens when an app’s name doesn’t match when you drag it into the Applications folder.

That’s a good catch! Perhaps delete all the versions of RapidWeaver from your Applications folder, then re-download and ensure it’s the only version in your Applications folder. Let us know how you get on.

I agree.
No I do not have another Mac that I can try.
Will give this some thought and report back.
Many thanks again for your help and patience.

Hi Dan,

Success. What a relief.

Thom Hogan has just emailed me with the following message.

I then looked back through my downloads and found the first version RapidWeaver 8.

I copied this into my Applications and lo and behold it worked.

This has been a great relief to me and I will sleep easy tonight.

Many thanks again to you and colleagues for your patience and help.

Is there any way I can record my gratitude for your help?

Best wishes,

John

Dear Thom,

Many many thanks for your helpful advice.

In my downloads I found the original RapidWeaver 8, then deleted all the others, 8.1, 8.2 etc.

On loading the original everything worked to my great relief.

You were right to query what happens when an apps name doesn’t match when you drag it into the Applications folder but of course it makes sense.

Thanks for getting me on the road again.

Best wishes,

John

No problem. A good community helps one another. Glad that this fixed the issue.

Mac user since 1982 (yes, the date is right).
