I’m excited to introduce SkyCast – a new component that drops a live, auto-updating weather card onto any page in Rapidweaver Elements.
The idea is simple: type a location name – a city, a resort, a campsite – and SkyCast finds the coordinates for you. It then pulls current conditions plus a multi-day forecast straight from Open-Meteo, no API key or account required. Change the name later and the card follows along automatically. For an exact spot, enter Latitude and Longitude instead and SkyCast uses them directly. Inside a CMS Item or Collection, the location fields accept Twig references too, so one component can show a different city on every page.
Everything is built to fit your design rather than fight it: colors, backgrounds, borders and shadows come straight from your theme, in light and dark mode. Choose Horizontal or Vertical layout, Full or Compact size, and decide exactly which details show – description, wind, humidity, rain chance. Weekdays, weather descriptions and labels switch language automatically to match your site, seven languages built in.
Alongside my WeaverPixel work, I’ve spent the last while moving my own travel blog, 500places.com, from WordPress over to Elements CMS. Table of Contents was the first step in bringing along the functionality I’d relied on in WordPress – SkyCast is the next building block, this time for showing readers the weather at the places I write about.
