NEWBIE: Couldn’t sign in to your FTP server

I am a newbie to Elements, I used to use Rapweaver 8 for personal website and just picked up Elements.

I have created a simple landing page for a new business we are starting but I simply cannot publish the page, the connection from Elements timesout.

I contacted my web hosting service to confirm things were setup correctly and they were able to connect using FileZilla. I have tried test connection from Elements and also Transmit but both get time out.
I purchased FileZilla and tried a test connection and it was successful, the first message I received on test connection was a warning about the certificate but after ackonledging that no issues and connection was confirmed.

I still can’t get elements to connect and am totally lost … PLEASE help.

I get:
Couldn’t sign in to your FTP server
Timeout was reached

I use the following parameters:
Server:
User Name: XXX Password: XXX
Path:
Override web address:

Any suggestions on what I am doing/not doing?

Hi @tidylaces,

It would be hard to check without any logs or FTP details provided (minus the password)

Are you using FTP or SFTP for the connection? Who is your web hosting provider?

Are you publishing to a folder then using FileZilla?

Sometimes it’s simple letters or numbers error … triple check it.
I had an issue this morning where I had two ‘n’ in an email name… couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t working:)

Thank you to everyone for your reply/feedback.

I was stresing late into the evening and reached out to my friend ChatGPT and after asking me lots of different questions and to check various things “we” found the problem, an easy fix was to use FTPS and boom the site was up and running.

Albeit just a numpty landing page but nonetheless up and running.

Also, thanks to the wonderful templates that come with Elements!!

Glad you got it sorted…. Nice to see it published - very fun…

Think that’s the first time I’ve read switching to FTPS solved a connection issue :exploding_head:

Great work getting it sorted though. :tada:
