I’m very interested in buying and getting used to Elements, but before I do…
I have a production site built in Classic, which is on the same Mac I’d like to install Elements on. If I do so, is there any chance the Classic app will be “damaged” or otherwise influenced by Elements? Also, assuming this is not the case, can I “migrate” the Classic site into Elements or build a new one in Elements based on Classic?
Any and all recommendations and/or calming confirmations are welcome.
They will not interfere with each other they can coexist. I have both installed on my machine and have not had any issues.
I have ported three sites from Classic/Stacks to Elements and it went very smoothly. I recreated and enhanced the sites, so I primarily copied the content over from the old sites.
Elements and some of its features made the process very smooth and effortless. The time consuming part was dealing with all of the assets from the old sites.
I have one more site to port and then I will happily put Classic/Stacks out to pasture as there are much greener pastures in Elements.
I should add that these were not trivial sites all three had e-commerce solutions and a lot of content. All of the sites look so much more professional now, which is encouraging.
The only missing piece for one of the sites was a blog solution, but that is coming to Elements in the near future. One remaining issue is some sort of cookie banner solution.
Thanks, Ben. I’ve purchased and installed Elemnts in the meantime and will start “fiddling” asap. Since my Classic site relies heavily on Stacks, it’ll likely be a challenge to get it to “match” in Elements, but I have a feeling there will be various improvements along the way. Looking forward to the journey.
As I said, if you can’t work out how to recreate something from Stacks, just let us know — often there’s an easier way to do it in Elements, or we can whip up a custom component to do exactly the same thing
