Newcomer

Hi.

Just upgraded from Classic and already running into problems so apologies if my questions have been covered.

  1. How do you get the Menu to appear on every added page automatically?
  2. How do you get the Header to appear on every added page automatically?
  3. How do you get the Menus/Headers to update automatically on every page when another page is added?

This will keep me busy today.

Thanks.

To use the same elements on multiple pages, you can use globals. Usually, there’s one for the header and one for the footer.

Once you’ve created a page, you can duplicate it and edit its contents.

I have the latest version of Elements and the video does not help as things appear to have changed.

I spend extra time creating a single page… spacing, colors, fonts, menu, header, content, footer…

Then after you’ve revised it three times

Make the menu and footer into globals

Then duplicate to make you other pages

Then edit header and contents

How do you make them Globals in the latest update?\

This is all I want to know.

I have spent all day on this now. Googled, watched videos and asked here without success. Is anyone else using the updated Elements as things appea very different.

Hi @bluecob

making a element Global ist rather easy. Select your navigation or whatever you want to have global, press the right mouse button and select “convert to global”. See screen below.

I bought the software yesterday. When I opened it this morning it said there was an update to version 1.6.3 which I did and nothing in the video you linked to helps.

Right click on the node in the Page Layout panel or in the editor and then click on ‘Convert to Global’.

It will then appear in the Globals section in the Page Layout panel. The Globals section won’t exist until you create your first global. It is then best practice to right click on the global (in the Globals section) and rename it e.g. ‘Page Heading’.

Then on subsequent pages, you can just drag that global onto the page.

Once you have created the global, you will have to drag it onto each new page you create. It doesn’t automatically appear on each page. You have to create each new page.

Welcome we were all new to this at the beginning so don’t worry you will get used to it. Just a quick tip you can normally get help quicker if you tag someone in and also use @elementsbot which can also be used “privately” away from forum by clicking robot head net to search at top. Your can ask all your “embarrassing” questions here. Also use th search function as many newbies questions have been asked before.

There are also lots of videos entitled “Dev Diaries” that show you how to do things. These are also included with extra videos in the User manuals see side menu.

Welcome and GOOD LUCK!!!

Hey there, @bluecob! Welcome to the Elements family! :tada:

To make elements like menus and headers appear on every page, you can use Globals. Here’s a quick guide:

  1. Create a Global: Right-click on the element (like your menu or header) in the Page Layout panel or editor, and select “Convert to Global.” This will move it to the Globals section.

  2. Use the Global: Once you’ve created a Global, drag it onto each new page you create. It won’t automatically appear on new pages, but you can easily add it with a drag-and-drop.

  3. Update with Ease: When you update a Global, all instances of it across your site will update automatically. So, if you add a new page, just drag the Global onto it, and you’re good to go!

That does not work on my Mac with a magic mouse. Also using the other suggested method does not work.

Try Ctrl-click

I go one step further than that (because my sites tend to have many similar pages). I create a full page, including content (so it can be styled properly) and keep that in the Page Layout as “not in menus”. When I need a new page, I duplicate that page, toggle it’s menu status, move it in the structure where I want it, and then replace the content, as needed. I find this faster than building new pages from scratch all the time.

You can set a right click in System Settings for your Magic Mouse

ATTENTION.

I think I have solved it. I checked my Mouse settings in my Mac and it appears right click was not enabled. This never crossed my mind and I never realised this since buying the iMac.
