I have spent all day on this now. Googled, watched videos and asked here without success. Is anyone else using the updated Elements as things appea very different.
making a element Global ist rather easy. Select your navigation or whatever you want to have global, press the right mouse button and select âconvert to globalâ. See screen below.
I bought the software yesterday. When I opened it this morning it said there was an update to version 1.6.3 which I did and nothing in the video you linked to helps.
Right click on the node in the Page Layout panel or in the editor and then click on âConvert to Globalâ.
It will then appear in the Globals section in the Page Layout panel. The Globals section wonât exist until you create your first global. It is then best practice to right click on the global (in the Globals section) and rename it e.g. âPage Headingâ.
Then on subsequent pages, you can just drag that global onto the page.
Once you have created the global, you will have to drag it onto each new page you create. It doesnât automatically appear on each page. You have to create each new page.
Welcome we were all new to this at the beginning so donât worry you will get used to it. Just a quick tip you can normally get help quicker if you tag someone in and also use @elementsbot which can also be used âprivatelyâ away from forum by clicking robot head net to search at top. Your can ask all your âembarrassingâ questions here. Also use th search function as many newbies questions have been asked before.
There are also lots of videos entitled âDev Diariesâ that show you how to do things. These are also included with extra videos in the User manuals see side menu.
If youâre still stuck then come on here and the community will help you.
Hey there, @bluecob! Welcome to the Elements family!
To make elements like menus and headers appear on every page, you can use Globals. Hereâs a quick guide:
Create a Global: Right-click on the element (like your menu or header) in the Page Layout panel or editor, and select âConvert to Global.â This will move it to the Globals section.
Use the Global: Once youâve created a Global, drag it onto each new page you create. It wonât automatically appear on new pages, but you can easily add it with a drag-and-drop.
Update with Ease: When you update a Global, all instances of it across your site will update automatically. So, if you add a new page, just drag the Global onto it, and youâre good to go!

I go one step further than that (because my sites tend to have many similar pages). I create a full page, including content (so it can be styled properly) and keep that in the Page Layout as ânot in menusâ. When I need a new page, I duplicate that page, toggle itâs menu status, move it in the structure where I want it, and then replace the content, as needed. I find this faster than building new pages from scratch all the time.
I think I have solved it. I checked my Mouse settings in my Mac and it appears right click was not enabled. This never crossed my mind and I never realised this since buying the iMac.
Hey donât worry whats a mouse! I have used a pad for years as I find it less stressful on my old hands! Kepp going youâll get there and this community is brilliant when you get stuck!
