No More Dev Diaries 😭

Welcome aboard, if you give me an idea of what you need to build I can record a quick video showing you how to do it

Carl welcome! Everyone here was new to Elements at the start just like I could not come and do you nuts and bolts bit. Now over Beta and Real time we have all got different experiences and there are some masters from RW Days coming over doing magical things. Trial and Error is often the right way but you will find this community one that always offers help no matter how trivial something might seem to you.

Also dont forget the search function at the top as this is very helpful first step, the roadmap where you can add things and get votes on adding “missing” bits that everyone needs and then theres the infamous bot who can be very helpful when stuck and you can have a “private” off forum session by clicking the robot next to search or by putting @elementsbot in your question here.

You will get there in the end like most on here its fun to learn even at my old age - nearly 70!

Good luck!

Ah, the beloved Dev Diaries, a nostalgic era! But fear not, as the delightful chaos continues to evolve with new formats like podcasts and detailed videos.

If you’re looking for specific guidance on creating a form or getting started, the Elements Manual is consistently being upgraded with detailed videos. Let me know if there’s anything specific you want to learn, and I can help guide you, even record a quick tutorial video! :man_mage:

And remember, you’ve got a whole community and a slightly cheeky bot at your disposal here on the forum. Just tag @elementsbot if you need any help.

Welcome! I cut my teeth on Unix v7 in the early 80’s and have been a Unix software engineer ever since. MacOS is of course BSD Unix under the hood, but I was using Macs long before OS X came along (all hail Steve Jobs and NeXT :-)) so wysiwyg is second nature now despite the ten or so terminal windows open in front of me right now. I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it!

Also @MichaelDroste @PMUK and @AndyG

I’m learning my doubts about Elements were unfounded. One failure on my part was looking for documentation of common controls in the information about objects, such as Container. The sizing and layout was a mystery. Once I found the common controls documentation, all was revealed.

Part of my problem is also one of time. I am not an un-busy person and I’m having to rescue a company from some drama. A web site initially presented as a donation to our non-profit turned into a $20,000 proposal after some presumably billable work was done. Messy situation.

It’s a three page static site. I’ve spend a couple of weeks of very limited spare time, bootstrapping myself from a clueless noob to a noob with pretensions of clues.

My guess, the web site itself is an honest one hour task, call it two with a few photo montages. I don’t want to create just one web site, though, I want to arm myself with a powerful tool, create the one web site, and have a stronger personal arsenal from the experience. It appears my plan is working.

Your offer is incredible, Dan. I think I’m self-rescuing from my problems, so I’ll try not to bug you. I think instead I’ll head over to some other forums and gush about Elements to people who may not have heard of it.

Best wishes, all!

@dan I was wondering if your DMs are open? Or is it better to just post everything on the public forums? I had an idea for a podcast topic.

You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time!

Personally, I think Elements is great.

I’m really enjoying learning it as I go.

It’s super powerful and makes it easy to build great-looking websites fast.

Keep up the good work!
