I wonder if you have planned photogalleries for Elements that are similar - for example - to the PhotoPro stack for RWC (additionally with photo protections)?
Hi @zdenek
Yrs, we already have a Gallery component in Elements.
The Gallery supports dropping in a folder of resources, which can be a mix of images and videos (MP4, YouTube, and Vimeo).
Itâs similar to âPhotoProâ in that it handles creating thumbnails for you as well as the Lightbox overlay with the large versions that can be scrolled/clicked through.
Side Note: The Gallery component ships with Elements, so you donât need to buy any additional components
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Is there a tutorial on how to replicate a photo album page similar to RW Classic?
I see something called Gallery under Media but Elements seems completely foreign to me.
And I have been using RW since V3.
Perhaps there is some theme template that will work.
Hi @TomM
Iâve just recorded a quick video explaining the basics of adding images to a GalleryâŚ
And hereâs a link to the sample project, click here to open it in Elements.
Hope that helps!
Ok good. I will look at this when I get back. I assume that captions can be added under thumbnails as well as using random vertical and horizontal thumbnails (not square). Thanks.
Yes, those are all options
I see the options for square, wide and tall but not full frame thumbs of either vertical and or horizontal, like you can use in RW Classic photo album pages.
Also, I see the word Caption in the inspector but not how to add a caption to the thumbs or full size image.
I can see Elements becoming a replacement for a photo-sharing service to some degree. Thanks for making this.
Thatâs currently not supported, as we wanted to keep the Gallery looking clean, and uncomplicated. It might be an option we can add later, or a third-party may build a super configurable pro galleryâŚ
You need to open the Media Inspector tab and add them to each image:
Hope that helps!
Yes, I was wondering about using the CMS feature to do this on my own site⌠when I get the time to build it
It never would have occurred to me that a software with so many options would not be able to do what classic can do.
Unfortunately, if I want to remake my website containing 40 photo album pages, full frame thumbnails are a necessity.
How can I get a refund?
Thanks.
Sorry to hear you feel that way, maybe check back in on Elements in six months time.
You can email support@realmacsoftware.com to request a refund.
A collection might be better to support adding metadata for each photo in the collection.
Thanks.
I might add that in my decades of using RW/Stacks, I have always had the impression that the Photo Album page was kind of an after thought that really didnât get much attention.
For example, I just replied to a ten year old post about tiny thumbnails in edit view (Photo Album). Anyone can see how inconvenient that is.
I think that for a site that is mainly dedicated to photography, it is essential to have the following options (I didnât mention the PhotoPro stack for RWC as an exemple in my first post for nothing):
-
-
choice for thumbnails order
-
Thumbnails layout
keeping the original ratio and adapt the size in a grid (example for âjustifyâ):
-
Lightbox actions:

Meta caption:

I am about to consider switching from RWC to Elements and if I cannot get similar features to what I have currently with PhotoPro stack, hardly I will be in position to rebuilt my site. I understand Elements is in its infancy, but in that case Iâll have to wait until Elements has these features. Iâm happy to support development, but can I be sure that the advanced version of Elements will contain these features?
Will your team be open to integrating parameters that are quite specific (I admit it), or will you leave this work to a third party with some uncertainty as to its realisation?
Doesnât seem like they are that interested in this topic.
It is clearly not a high priority as Dan said come back in six months time when he gave you your refund.
Have to agree with you that the Gallery in Elements is one thing that lets it down. It looks good at what it does but I would like more layout and control options. Also agree that the Gallery in RW was never that flash either, I ended up with a few 3rd party stacks to get that how I liked it. I guess it is not something that is easy to do otherwise they would have done it.
For me I will take the limitations of the Gallery because of everything else Elements can do but then I donât have a photo heavy site.
Thanks for the honest feedback â we hear you
Youâre absolutely right that building a flexible, powerful gallery system isnât easy. Itâs one of those features that might sound simple on the surface but quickly grows into a complex challenge once you start digging into layout control, performance, image management, and all the little edge cases.
As a small team, weâve had to make some tough decisions about where to focus our time and energy. Right now, weâre prioritising core features and stability, but that doesnât mean gallery improvements are off the table. Itâs something weâd like to add going forward â we just want to make sure we do it right, not rushed.
Appreciate your patience and support as we keep moving Elements forward
I have photo albums on one of my site but I also have a link to iCloud Photos which works well..have you tried that,
