Problem Setting the Preview URL for the Online Editor in the CMS

I am having problems setting the Preview URL for the online Editor in the CMS. At present, I cannot get the button to appear and I suspect that this is because I am supplying an incorrect link.

The preview page is:

This requires a slug such as item=“scroggy” to work:

I have tried setting the link to the preview page and also setting the link with item={{item.slug}}, as suggested by ElementsBot:

Neither works.

Please could someone who has their editor preview working provide me with an example of a functioning link or explain what I am doing wrong?

As always… nuking the server files, closing down Elements and the Mac, then republishing everything solved the problem. Wish I had thought of it 6 hours ago.
