Builders Notes (optional):
In the late 1970s, a figure appears in Munich who refuses to be anyone specific—and becomes unmistakable precisely because of that: Rabe perplexum. Born as Manuela Hahn, Rabe gradually reinvents themself as a living work of art.
During the day, paintings, drawings, and videos are created; at night, bars, backyards, and apartments turn into makeshift studios. In 1996, at the age of 39, Rabe took their own life.
Photographer Rainer Schwinge accompanied Rabe on this self-created stage, resulting in unique images.
