If I Right Click / Get Info on the RW Classic app, it shows the file size as 263MB. However, if I look at the app in System Settings > Storage its says it is using 17.4 GB.
Any idea why? Does ‘Storage’ somehow include all the projects I have in RW?

Hey @manofdogz,
Seems like project files would show storage in their relative folders (for example if you are storing them in Documents).
Do you have a lot of third-party plugins/themes/stacks/etc. installed? Those could take up extra space and be reported in the System Settings >> Storage reporting for the app.
A fair few yes but not enough to get to 17.4GB? And still can’t see why the size would be so different between the ‘Get Info’ window and the ‘Storage’ window.
If you’re using Stacks, it might be its image backup feature. It’s notorious for storing an excessive number of images in RapidWeaver’s app support folder. You can click the blue icon in Stacks preferences to open this folder in Finder.
Thanks Tom - I’ll take a look
I have about 12 folders of various image backups but they total around 600MB so not even close. The total library size is 2GB which would be about right if the Get Info calculated storage is correct.
Weird that Systems Settings > Storage > Apps > Rapidweaver is so different.
That is really strange! I’m fairly certain the size is calculated from the app size which is about 250MB for Classic + everything in the app support container.
You could navigate up a few directories from the image backup folder and check the size of Data.
~/Library/Containers/com.realmacsoftware.rapidweaver/Data
If that’s reported as 18GB, navigate into Data and check each folder within.
Nope - Data is very small…
.
@manofdogz I’m just wild guessing, but I think we’re at that point to try out some guesses.
I, and enough others, have experienced the Stacks issue regarding externals. Externals are something I’ve never activated or used. However, to my complete surprise, some folks sent me RW8 files that used externals and all and any of those externals magically transferred to any RW personal projects I had open at the time.
This may well NOT be the problem in your case, but it’s worth a double-check.
Here’s a “silent” video showing one way to check. Please make sure to create a copy of your original RW file first:
I don’t have a Shared Plugin Data folder at all?
The Storage reporting should only be pulling from the app itself and whatever is located in the app support container.
Try navigating to the following directories:
And going through each of them to see if you can spot any large files/folders (if you don’t have Elements yet you wouldn’t have that last directory on the list).
The video is not complete … sorry. After creating a copy of your RW project, you need to control-click on the RW project file. This project file is actually a “folder” containing contents. On my Mac I control-click on the file, then select Show Package Contents. Select that option. Then you should see the SharedPluginData folder and several other things.
As a consequence you are able to tell where all that data is being stored.
After this it’s easy to see where the data is IN the project folder:
@manofdogz I think @dang is being more useful for you. I was wondering if you had 1 or more specific projects that were super large and, in turn, that was impacting the System Settings > Storage. And that might be the case … but more useful, and more likely cause, are related to the suggestions @dang is making
All my projects add up to around 25GB (including Classic & RW8 and other older versions. All I can guess is that System Settings > Storage > Apps > Rapidweaver includes projects created in RW as well as the core app.
No - nothing of particular size in here. Mystery! I have noticed some slow downs e.g. changes not showing in preview mode unless I switch pages and also closing down a project seems to stall for 5-10 seconds sometimes. Otherwise I am not experiencing any particular issues.
Apple’s App Storage reporting is only pulling data from a few locations. If your project files were located in any of those locations then that would account for that extra size showing in your screenshot. To confirm, where are you storing your project files (which folder exactly)?
I tried to replicate this with a 10 GB project file, and the only way I was able to increase the app size as shown in your screenshot is if I moved that project file to a folder that System Settings >> Storage >> Applications pulls data from.
Other locations you can check are:
~/Library/Containers/RapidWeaver/Data/Library/Application Support/
~/Library/Containers/RapidWeaver/Data/Library/
~/Library/Containers/RapidWeaver/Data/
Another thing to try is clearing your Support Logs which you can do from RapidWeaver’s Help menu. If you’ve been using RapidWeaver for years your support logs could have ballooned up, especially if you have upload logging enabled. Those support logs should be located in the first file path I posted above.
Did you locate anything @manofdogz?
Not had a chance yet but will look !
