In classic I could open a resource image in Imageoptim or the satsuma thingy and tune the image without a full round trip - can we do that ?
Apple are making things very hard for apps to work together, so unfortunately, that’s no longer something we can offer due to the newer macOS sandboxing restrictions 
Instead, you can use the Replace Resource… option to swap or update images in your project.
