It has been over a year since I last looked at Elements and understand much has evolved during that time.
I currently use RW 8.93 and am now considering the migration of my current site of some 300 pages to Elements.
However I have the following questions that need addressing prior to making the transition.
My current site makes exclusive use of warehoused assets (images, pdf’s, videos etc). I would want to retain this warehousing approach - is this still easily achieved with “Add Remote Resource” in Elements?
I have been using the Shaking The Habitual Srcerer stack for images as it provides the ability to use up to 7 different image sizes to optimise for differing user devices.
It appears that Elements does not provide this flexibility - can you please advise why and how Elements approaches this topic of optimising image size vs user devices.
CMS & Pretty Url’s - I currently use the stacks app Poster 2 for my blogs. It uses code on my server to translate the url’s generated by Poster 2 into ‘pretty url’s’.
How does Elements create ‘pretty url’s’
Sitemaps - There does not appear to be any recent (within the past year) details related to the issue of the sitemap(s) that Elements generate - can you please refer me to such details.
You can override the image size in the Image component at each breakpoint.
Yes, the built-in CMS supports pretty URLs, and it now also comes with an online editor.
Yes, Elements automatically generates a complete sitemap
Honestly, Elements is leaps and bounds ahead of RW Classic/Stacks and we’re not slowing down, it gets new releases almost every week! And if you do get stuck on anything, we’re always here to help.
I’m sure other users here will tell you how pleased they are to have made the switch
Paul WELCOME BACK! I’ve been using Elements since beta times and also using CMS2 snd I can reiterate what @dan has said above. I find Elements much easier to use than RW8/Clsssic snd I’ve been using RW since v5. I also love the CMS2 and using the remote offline editor too. I would also add that from a user point of view - and no matter how “silly” it may seem to you - if you come on this community you’ll get help very quickly. Yesterday I was “blind” as to how to do something small asked here and solution within 5 minutes. So IMO make the break and start with Elements and if you get stuck just ask here!
I especially appreciate the video showcasing the image size variation option - that is very helpful!
In terms of the ‘pretty url’s’ is this achieved by code written onto the server as with Poster 2 or is there another option being deployed within Elements to arrive at ‘pretty url’s’
Regarding the sitemap does this generate simple page references or does it dig deeper into itemising each specific asset (namely images, pdf’s, videos etc)?
One particular PDF stack that I currently use and find very useful in terms of functionality, user experience and time saving is that created by Stacksworks named PDFFirstlook where the stack automatically generates an image from the page page of the pdf document providing a visual representation of the document itself. Is this something that can be accommodated within Elements either now or in the near future as this for me is a massive time saver and avoids the need to generate and upload images to represent the PDF document?
Paul this one is done purely with Elements - using Cartloom for shop https://ezyasabc.co.uk
This one is only 8 hours of working so far and is done in Elements CMS2 - except for header and footer. The pages Home and Risks have content only as I am just working on framework at moment and today I am concentrating on getting the “body” text to appear on each risk. Once I have this framework all working I will then add the content specific to each risk.
This is new to me and only started on Monday (4 hours) and yesterday (4hrs) Its still VERY rough and the end product WILL look vastly different as I have about another 5 characters in multiple scenarios to add. Once I am comfortable with how CMS2 works then they will be added also.
This is also designed for non clinical people and is actual facts changed into “cartoon character” to make it more relatable and less clinically. Please let me know your thoughts as I have had characters for a while and not a vehicle like CMS2 to showcase them easily. TIA https://testing.mooreuk.co.uk
Both are hosted on ELEMENTS HOSTING which I also find very easy to use and has great support especially from @differentdan
