I have an old RapidWeaver 9 project which I have updated for my World Cup 2026 competition which I do want to appear in search engines. I am getting emails from the Google Search Console to say…
“New reason preventing your pages from being indexed
Search Console has identified that some pages on your site are not being indexed due to the following new reason:
Excluded by ‘noindex’ tag
If this reason is not intentional, we recommend that you fix it in order to get affected pages indexed and appearing on Google.”
I can see that some of the listed pages have been deleted so it may resolve itself.
Should I uncheck any of the Meta Tags boxes or just ignore these messages?
Any advice gratefully received.
David
Hi @Printdevil
If you want the search engines to index your pages, what you have in the screenshot is correct.
That’s great Dan,
Can you tell me what each item refers to…
Enable Robot Meta Tags
Index This Page
Follow Links
I am just wondering if turning some of these off on certain pages of my site might fix the alert messages I am getting from the Google Search Console.
Enable Robot Meta Tags - Enables the actual Meta tag on the page
Index This Page - Tells search engines to actually index the page
Follow Links - Tells search engines to follow any links you have on the page to their respective source.
Regarding what you are seeing in Google Search Console:
Search Console has identified that some pages on your site are not being indexed due to the following new reason:
Excluded by ‘noindex’ tag
Is it telling you which pages it’s seeing a noindex tag on? Can you link to a couple of them?
These are the pages it cannot index but these pages don’t actually exist on the server any more. I have told the Console to Re-validate so maybe it will resolve itself.
Ok if those pages don’t exist anymore then nothing to worry about, Google should update eventually when it rescans/revalidates your site.
