I believe there is code to put in the Head section of any given page to preclude search engines from indexing it … is that so, and if so, what is the code?

Why don’t you just deselect the box “index” in the page settings?

John Mu, Search Advocate at Google, mentions this topic every few months on Twitter ( @JohnMu ). He is very clear that robots.txt blocks crawling, but not necessarily indexing. The right way to do it is with a User ID/Password. You could use a stack such as Page Safe - or go the free route and use the htaccess file.
Yes, I have used the .htaccess file for an entire site, I will look into that for a single page. Thank you.
