Safari Can't Open Page

Hi All

Have been exploring the free version and have been really impressed! Took the plunge today and bought the Plus license. Have immediate hit a roadblock  I have been able to preview before with no problems. No idea how to help myself here. The Safari preview is toggling between two messages…

Safari can’t open the page ā€œ127.0.0.1:49499ā€ because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes and then try again.

And another try will give me

Notice: fread(): Read of 8192 bytes failed with errno=21 Is a directory in /Ap

No idea if I have done something with the project that it doesn’t like or if it’s something else.

Anyone got any ideas?

So far I have

  • emptied history/cache
  • restarted Elements
  • restarted iMac
  • Flushed DNS
  • changed the browser option to test in other browsers, but they all give me a message saying not able to open
  • Tried turning off Firewall
  • Tested on MacBook - same issue
  • I have the latest updated version

It was working great when I was using it a few days ago. I think this may have started when I was using the free version, I remember not being able to preview either yesterday or day before, but it was the end of the day and I thought it was a one off and switched off! I have only just switched back on and the problem is still there.

Any help welcomed!

I have created a new page and tested out a Global Footer, with no other content, and that page is working fine in Preview - so this is something I have done by the looks of it. Will take it apart over the weekend

Hopefully something simple!

Sorry to hear you hit an issue, I wonder if it’s something to do with the way the project is setup.

Can you check it has a homepage? Right-click and ā€œSet as Home Pageā€ if you don’t see a ā€œHouseā€ icon in the page list.

If that’s not the issue, can you share your project via Elements Cloud so we can take a look and get it fixed for you!

P.S. Thanks for supporting Elements :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Hi Dan,

It’s Friday, you should be logged off!

An update from my end, as I couldn’t switch off

Luckily for me I had only had one page in project. I have just taken everything from that page and recreated it, bit by bit, to an empty page, testing the preview as I went. It was all fine. Set that page as the Home page, tested again, and so far all good.

So I am wondering if I did some things that didn’t help:

  1. I initially had the Elements project syncing in a Dropbox folder - then I read that might cause problems and moved it
  2. When I started the project as few days back I had started off with a different Home page, then created another page with a different layout, which I swapped with the first Home page (right-click set as home page) - it had the little House next to it, so thought all was good. I then deleted the first Home page.

Maybe a combo of being in Dropbox as well didn’t help. Hope that all makes sense?

So, I think I am good to go now - it’s been working brilliantly well, glad to have upgraded!

Have a good weekend!

I know, I know… but I love what I do

Yeah, try not to store it on Dropbox, Element project files are bundles so they don’t play too nice with some sync systems. iCloud should be fine. Sounds like you read the sync docs we have already, but will link it here for anyone else reading.

You can also make regular backups of your projects using Elements Cloud, just to be on the safe side!

Have fun
