SEO for (gallery) images

I’m struggling to see how I can add TITLE and ALT TEXT to individual images shown in a gallery, or individually on pages.

(I’ve found Caption and Author but these don’t sound like seo features. And displaying them is not a viable option for my gallery page.)

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Richard if you want a quicker response try putting @elementsbot or @dan in your request and put the word Help in title and usually I find you get a quicker response. Sometimes people in forum read the heading and then just skip it if its not of interest but I’ve found putting th “help” in peaks peoples interest to help.

To add ALT TEXT to images in a gallery for SEO purposes, you should use the Image Component settings. Set the “Description” in the Image Component, which acts as the ALT TEXT for search engines and accessibility tools.

For TITLE attributes, Elements doesn’t directly support this, but you can use a Custom Component to add custom HTML if needed.

Remember, I’m just a bot and might hallucinate, so double-check in the Elements documentation or forum for the latest info. If you need more help, you can tag @dan or @tpbradley for their expert advice.

@Dan, can you offer some direction on this please?

(Thanks Paul.)

Bumping again as no response to my query.

Dan,

To be clear, I’m asking whether or not alt text can be added to individual images in a gallery.

My existing RW site has this feature and it’s working. I rank 1st on page 1 of Google.

If Elements doesn’t allow me to add alt text to my gallery images, I don’t think I can risk using it. Please tell me this basic SEO feature isn’t missing!

Here’s a gallery made from Elements - alt tags are there if you right click on an image and go - ‘inspect element’

Where you add the Alt tag is not immediately obvious - I think this is an oversight - also an oversight is that there is no reference to to the Alt tag there

Hi @Rich2020

Yes, you can add alt text to all images in the Gallery by editing the Caption, which is available via the Resource Info panel

The Gallery component will automatically set this as the alt tag for you. Hope that helps

Yes - Caption would ideally reference ‘Alt Tag’ - so daft people like me can find it

Thanks jbob.

@ben Will it still act as an alt tag if I choose to hide the captions?

I’ve attached an image showing an AI search overview. It’s clearly as confused as I am. Is it referencing something from the Elements site?!

Also, I agree with jbob that the ‘caption’ should read ‘alt tag’. To me it would make sense to change ‘description’ for regular images on pages to ‘alt tag’ too. Or, at least, use one consistent term in all instances.

Never trust AI on answers about anything. AI can often be wrong, and sometimes it just makes stuff up. It’s always best to do your own research after asking AI an important question.

The Caption field is displayed as a caption below images in the gallery. It just also happens to be useful as an ALT tag in code. So in this case I think Caption still makes sense.

Thanks @dan , but to be sure, the Caption text will still act as an alt tag, even if I choose to hide the caption. Is that right?

Yes, that’s correct

Thanks Dan!
