We’ve had reports that the “Stacks” menu in Stacks 5 is missing from the latest version of RapidWeaver Classic. We’ve taken time-out this afternoon to do a deep-dive into this issue.
Why is this issue happening?
The issue stems from the fact that the Stacks 5 plugin currently hijacks the RapidWeaver menubar and inserts its own menu — this is not supported by our API, so is out of our control.
After much investigation it appears the issue has occurred due to Stacks executing this UI code on a background thread, while this is never a good idea, it previously worked but may have caused random crashes. RapidWeaver Classic 9.3.x is now built using the latest version of Xcode from Apple under macOS Sequoia. We believe Apple has improved their thread detection and will now block illegal background calls to the UI in order to prevent application crashes.
Who is affected?
This issue appears to be affecting all users running RapidWeaver Classic 9.3.x and Stacks 5.x.
This issue appears not to affect the general functionality of Stacks 5, but it does mean the Stacks 5 keyboard shortcuts will not function until the plugin is updated.
When will it be fixed?
Unfortunately, this is not something we can fix in RapidWeaver Classic, due to the reasons stated above. The fix needs to be implemented by YourHead, and an update issued to the Stacks 5 plugin to bring back this functionality.
We have notified YourHead via email about this issue, and will update this post as soon as we hear back.
Many Thanks,
Dan & Team Realmac
